Roderick
Davison Scattergood
Mr. Scattergood, of Cornelius, NC died Thursday, December 27th, 2007, in the presence of his family at Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville following a brief illness.
Born January 28th, 1921 in Ainsworth, Nebraska he was the son of Blanche Davison Scattergood Beegle and Arthur William Scattergood.
Rod was a Navy flyer during World War II and was one of the first Americans captured by the Germans, thereby spending more than three years in 10 German POW camps. Above all he was a father to Kathleen, Suzy, David, Mary, and Ken. Additionally he is survived by 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
In 1972, Rod and Betty moved to what was then remote Lake Norman, spending many enjoyable hours on their beloved boat, teaching grandchildren to fish and water ski. Rod also spent many rewarding hours in his workshop, crafting furniture and toys for family members. Many Christmases Rod built doll cradles for which Betty supplied the bedding and dolls; to be distributed to needy children.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark Catholic Church, Saturday, December 29th, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the St. Mark Catholic Church Building Fund, 14740 Stumptown Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Only days ago did my sister Judy and I learn of this great loss. Rod was Daddy's best friend and we are saddened that they are now both gone but we celebrate that they are together in God's kingdom working/laughing/playing together once again. May all the fond memories bring a sense of joy to you Betty and the family...and may the love of our Lord and Savior begin to heal your heavy hearts. We understand your pain.
Much Love, Amy and Judy
