Rose Register Obituary

Rose Mary Register was born on November 11, 1938 to Mary Emma Adams Rich and Charles Allen Rich in Peru, Indiana. She moved numerous times in childhood due to her father LCDR Rich's assignments as a US Navy legal officer.

In San Diego she was baptised at University Christian Church near Balboa Park. She committed to be a missionary at Camp Cuyamaca. She started nurse's training at the University of Virginia and met her future husband, Ray G. Register Jr. at a pre-school retreat. They married on June 10, 1957 and Ray left on a cruise with the US Navy.

She moved to Newport RI, Nursing School, graduating as an RN with top national honors.

She then moved to SouthEastern Baptist Seminary in Wake Forest NC.

In 1960 they moved to a pastorate in Whitakers NC where Rose Mary worked as charge nurse at the Edgecomb Hospital and studied at NC Wesleyan University. She was appointed as a representative to Israel by the Foreign Mission Board of the SBC in 1964 and studied Arabic and Islamics at the Hartford Seminary for a year before sailing to Israel on the Queen Anna Maria. She studied Arabic a year in Haifa before moving to Nazareth for 26 years.

She home-schooled her three children there while Ray ministered in the villages. She experienced the trauma of three wars, assisted in founding the annual Galilee Jewish-Arab believers meeting, led a hand bell choir and catalogued the Nazareth Hospital Nursing School library.

In 1992 she moved to Kefr Yasif, Josephus village, and assisted Jewish women in Bible study and baptism of Vietnamese refugees. The last five years in Israel she lived in Ramla.

In 2002 she retired in Escondido CA where she was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the DAR. She passed away on August 17 after a three year battle with lymphoma at age 86.

She was known for her peaceful and discerning spirit which complemented her husband's ministry and endeared her to family and friends alike.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years and three children, Dr. Charles G. Register of Moscow, Russia, James A. Register of Rancho Bernardo, and Cheryl Cady of Temecula, a sister, Janet Mangold of Wenatchee WA and five grandchildren; Jaime Register of Knoxville TN, Nathanael Zamir of Seattle WA, Moriel Zamir of Escondido CA, Margarita Register of Moscow, Russia, and Nicole Manidarova of Moscow, Russia. She was predeceased by her sister, Charlotte Rich Beaton of Portland, OR.
