My condolences to Tony's family and love ones. I had the pleasure of coaching with him in Boston, and he quickly became one of my favorites and a good friend! He left the team to get his cancer treatment and I was so upset when his pitching coach job was no longer his, upon his return. Tony handled it with class and dignity and remained loyal to the Red Sox the rest of his career.
He was so humble with such a gentile warm soul. I loved talking baseball with him and hearing all his great baseball stories. He had a great playing career and touched many lives as a coach! I was so sad to learn of his passing- he will be missed- and I am thankful that I knew this really good man!!!

I remember the fear in the minds of the Bandys High School baseball team when Rock Springs came to play us. Tony was great and all of us are so proud of his career. May God bless all of his family members and friends. Our loss is heaven's gain! George Simmons

Sorry to hear of his passing. He was a distant cousin of mine and I followed his career for that reason. He pitched against my hometown Cubs in the first MLB game I ever attended when he was a Milwaukee Brave.
Even though Tony hasn't pitched in decades I am still asked on a regular basis if we are related. People bring up the two grand slam game all the time, but folks forget what a great pitcher he was until injuries slowed down his career.
Thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I was at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium when Tony went all 13 innings giving up only 3 runs against the Pirates in the first game after the Braves moved south. I also heard the 2 grand slams on Sunday afternoon on radio. Rest in peace Big Guy.

So sorry to hear about Tony's death. I will always remember listening to the Braves game on WSOC-AM 930 when Tony hit two grand slams at Candlestick Park. It had never been done in an NL game. The fact that a pitcher did it made the feat more special. Thank you Cloninger family for sharing Tony with us.

My condolences Darren to you and your siblings. I am honored to have met "Big Tony." I will always remember fishing with him and the free baseball tickets. You have much to be proud of in him and he no doubt was proud of each of you and his grandchildren.
