I've never known a more gracious person than Bill. He was an asset to the company in so many ways and an example of the goodness in humanity. We shared a love for dogs and shopping for home goods and I always enjoyed running into him on weekends at our favorite haunts. I have many fond memories to cherish.

Bill Kiger was a remarkable man, and I feel blessed to have called him a friend and a colleague. For the past several years here at Belk, I had the opportunity to work with Bill in building Belk's burgeoning eCommerce business.

For me, Bill was both a mentor and a role model, a man whose remarkable character preceded him. As a leader in a corporate environment, he was quite the exception: a rare, gentle soul who succeeded not by force of will, but through his remarkable empathy for others. Bill wore his classically Southern, genteel upbringing on his sleeves, and he gave freely of his time and energy to help others succeed, while asking nothing in return.

I will always cherish the time I knew Bill, and the many lessons he taught me on how remarkable humans interact with the world. The memory of his character and kindness will stay with me for the rest of my days.

Bill, I will love you always. You hired me as your Assistant Buyer at Belk Stores Services in 1994. I was amazed at how "gracious", optimistic, supportive, friendly and kind you were to everyone. The perfect gentleman. You were my mentor as I moved throughout the organization...my goal was to carry your wonderful traits forward into my career here at Belk. I am a better person for having known you. You will be missed, my friend.
