William Hugh Mason

1931 - 2017

Mr. Mason, 85, went home to be with our Lord on April 6, 2017 after nearly 8 years of managing the complications of COPD. Bill was born June 22, 1931 in Kings Mountain, NC to the late Floyd and Lottie Mason. He was raised for most of his youth by his aunt and uncle, the late Essie and Esley Ewing of Belmont. He is also preceded in death by his sisters Josephine Frye and Louise Rhodes and brother Ralph Mason. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Iris Mason; son Greg Mason (Patrice); his sister Linda Hottel (Bill) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Maria Dahl (Jeremiah), Christina Mason, and David Mason. Bill served in the US Air Force for 3 years as a mechanic stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador. He attended HVAC school in Chicago and there learned appliance repair as well. He also served as fireman for the City of Tallahassee in Florida. Bill's career in appliance repair spanned nearly 40 years. He retired from General Electric in 1991 but remained busy with several part time jobs for years thereafter. Bill always made himself available to help his neighbors, friends, and family even after retiring. There was little that he could not repair and he found joy in helping folks with plumbing, automobiles, electrical, HVAC, and appliance problems. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Christ the King Church, 13501 South Tryon St., Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
