Irene I Comps

Irene I. Comps, 84, of Cheboygan passed away Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017 at Tendercare in Cheboygan. She was born Feb. 7, 1933 in Cheboygan, the daughter of Fredrick and Ida (Barrette) Bur. Irene was a graduate of Pellston High School, and later, on Sept. 9, 1950, in Cheboygan, Irene married John L. Comps, who preceded her in death in 2008.  She had worked as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company, and later Century Products, both in Cheboygan, and enjoyed camping, bowling, bingo, trips to the casino, and winters in Florida, and was a member of St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by seven children; Ken (Patty) Comps of Cheboygan, Fred (Joni Hall) Comps of Gaylord, Mike (Deborah) Comps of Cheboygan, Karen (Jim) Stang of Burnsville, Minn., Debra (Brian) Fuller of Indian River, Tom (Roberta) Comps of Cheboygan and Larry (Elena) Comps of Cheboygan, a daughter in law, Theresa Comps of Cheboygan, a sister, Lucille Scheele of Cheboygan, 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  
In addition to her husband John, Irene was preceded in death by a son, Wayne, a sister, Gladys Gouine, a brother, Hector Bur and two great grandchildren, Emmalynn Brach and Mason Sumampow. 
The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017at 11 a.m. at St. Mary/St. Charles Catholic Church, with the family greeting friends beginning at 10 a.m.  Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate.  Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Straits, Bishop Baraga School or the charity of one's choice.
