On a trip to Tennessee to see their younger daughters at college, Nancy and Stan decided they wanted a home in the mountains of North Carolina. In 1982, they began spending summers camping, while they built a house in Ranger, with the help of their son-in-law, Ronnie, other family members and friends. After Nancy retired, she and Stan spent many happy months at their home in N.C.
Attending the annual Welborn family reunion and spending time with Stan's siblings, nieces/nephews was very important to her.
Nancy was an associate member of Ranger United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women's group until health problems curtailed her participation. She enjoyed reading, especially historical fact and fiction, and was a charter member of the Friends of the Murphy Public Library.
