Steve Morrow Obituary

Steve Ray Morrow of Andrews passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025.
He was born on Feb. 1, 1953, and is survived by one sister, Evelyn, and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlyle and Mary Phillips Morrow, and was also a grandson of Dr. Will Morrow, who practiced in the area for many years.
Steve loved the woods and all things wild and contributed much time to conservation efforts over the years. He was an avid hiker in his younger days. He always carried a copy of Radford's Study of Wild Plants in his backpack, having studied botany at Appalachian State. One was hard pressed to find a plant in the woods he could not identify due to his almost photographic memory.
In his younger days, he was a rock hound having made many trips to Chunky Gal. Later in life, he traveled about the area with Jesse Nichols, the so-called "lizard man." When he could no longer travel, he enjoyed bird watching from his porch.
Steve was also an accomplished finger picker on the banjo and dulcimer. An
avid student of history as well as weather, he had books and books of recorded information.
He will truly be missed by those who knew him.
