May God be very near to Alma's survivors at this time when the earth may be reeling for you. (See Psalm 46:1-2, Tanakh). Alma hired me as a temporary coder in the research department at the American Hospital Association in 1973. When I transferred out of that department in 1976, I was a project director thanks to Alma's willingness to take a chance on a U of C sociology graduate school dropout. My late wife Trisha and I last saw Alma probably in 2001 on an IC (Metra Electric) train coming north from Homewood. She was riding north to downtown Chicago from Hyde Park. I appreciated her kindnesses and encouragement. She will be greatly missed.
