Calliope Prekezes fell asleep peacefully in the Lord on October 2, 2016. Wife of Dr. James Prekezes; loving mother of Dr. Christine Prekezes (Peter) Vranas, John (Lily) Prekezes, Irene Prekezes and Joann Prekezes; proud grandmother of Ian, James Paul, Kelly, James, Byron, Anastasia, Hellena and the late Gabriel; step grandmother to Becky and Faith Louis; devoted daughter of the late John and Irene Dorizas; beloved sister of Angelo Dorizas; dear aunt to many. Calliope was a devoted member of Saints Peter and Paul in Glenview. She worked as a tireless advocate for Cancer Survivors and chaired many philanthropic projects. She headed and expanded the Prosphoro (sacramental bread) Ministry for many years. Panagia and St. John the Theologian exiled on her beloved island of Patmos and wrote the book of Revelations, were among her favorite saints. Visitation Friday October 7, 2016 9:30 a.m. until time of Funeral Service, 10:30 a.m. Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 1401 Wagner Road, Glenview, IL 60025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Rush University Medical Center for Breast Cancer Research ,1700 West Van Buren, Suite 250, Chicago, Illinois 60612 or Saints Peter and Paul Philoptochos Philanthropy Fund, 1401 Wagner Road. My aunt from Chicago.

Can't recall when I first met my aunt Calliope, was I six years old or seven? What is unforgettable is the first impression of her. It was her personality and warm presence and of course the fancy gifts that she had brought for me and my sister from America, that made us kids, so happy.
The years were passing and my aunt's summer trips, with my uncle and my cousins become more frequent and the presents of course always as generous, as Calliope was as a person.
As the years went by, I was able to appreciate the most invaluable gifts have received from Calliope and these were, her true words of wisdom, advice from a caring person with a clear and clever mind and an example to follow.
Calliope was both a stoic and at the same time a brave and restless fighter. She fought the disease with unbelievable courage and resilience. She stood against everything she thought that was wrong. She stood by her family, relatives, friends in any time of need, always trying to take the right decisions and do things right.
I'm so happy that I spent some time together with her, my cousin Joann and my son, in Patmos in the last week of August and so sad for her loss that followed this trip.
I will never forget you aunt, rest in peace.

Dear Prekezes Family,
Sending our sincere sympathy and prayers to all of you. Your mother was an extraordinary person that impacted our parish in such a beautiful way by teaching all of us the gift of making prosfera. She became my friend after that and left her legacy and loving gift to all of us. I'm truly sorry for any pain and suffering that she experienced with her illness, but I know she is now in paradise.
