Catherine VanPelt

1936 - 2020

Catherine "Cathy" Consuelo Van Pelt, nee Carrero, longtime resident of Winnetka, Illinois and Naples, Florida passed away at Evanston Hospital on December 21, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Catherine Hodge and Tildo Sanchez Carrero and her sister Lenore Carrero Nesbitt. Cathy is the beloved mother of (and survived by) her two children Jeffery Sutton Van Pelt and Catherine MacKinnon, nee Van Pelt. Very proud "Grandma Kitty" of Alexandria Jean Van Pelt, James Sutton Van Pelt, Maxwell Richard MacKinnon and her namesake, Catherine Elizabeth MacKinnon. Cathy was born June 5, 1936. She was raised in Coral Gables, Florida and attended Coral Gables High School. Cathy graduated the University of Michigan Class of 1958 where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She met and married her husband of 53 years at Michigan, James Sutton Van Pelt Jr. The incredible bonds and friendships Cathy made at Michigan were a lifelong source of laughter and joy. She was a talented artist with an eye for detail. Cathy's love of art, design, fashion and style were her hallmark. She is, and will always be, an inspiration to friends and family, to surround themselves with beauty; to be our best and most beautiful selves. Cathy's quick wit, incredible smile and infectious positive energy were a gift to us all. Cathy volunteered and developed life long friendships at the Women's Club of Evanston and was a Republican Precinct Captain for many years.
