Charles "Joe" Compton, age 84, of Chicago. Beloved husband of Beverley, nee Wallberg; loving father of Carl Philip (Cindy) and John Andrew (Jodi) Compton; proud grandfather of A.J., Trey, Drew, Ryan, Adam, Ben and Luke; loving cousin and friend to many. Choral Director at Schurz and Taft High Schools; Director of Music at Edgebrook and Nebo Lutheran Churches. Memorial Gathering Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m. until time of a Celebratory Service, 11 a.m., at Edgebrook Lutheran Church, 5252 W. Devon Ave., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Edgebrook Lutheran Church, 5252 W. Devon Ave., Chicago, IL 60646. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Haben Funeral Home & Crematory, Skokie.

Joe has been my good friend for more than thirty five years; as skier, Meadowridge decorator, play goer, and sometime Cub fan. He has embodied all the best traits of a friend - loyalty, forebearance, and steadfast love.
My fondest picture of Joe is sitting in a Tail-Gator chair on the lawn in front of Unit 1-3, wearing only a Speedo (very nicely, thank you!), doing needle work. Cross stitch or needle point: all was done in a very beautiful way.
You will be missed - and remembered.

I can't remember a time when Joe was not a part of my life, he and Bev have been my parents' good friends since I was six. I remember 8 of us in the 1 bedroom condo, camp fires at BV, wonderful weekends at Quaker Haven. Throughout all, there was Joe's unforgettable laugh, warm heart, many talents and joy. It was so fitting that Joe and Bev got the flowers for the longest marriage at our wedding, as they are an example of how you keep a marriage strong. My thoughts and prayers go to Bev, Phil, Andy and their families. Seven boys did not get nearly enough time with their Grandpa Joe, But I know their Grandma and dads will help remind them of his gifts to them.
