Our deepest condolences. What a gentle, earnest man. So eager to share his joy (and fishing secrets!) with me after only knowing me 5 minutes. Our family is keeping you in our prayers, and Gabrielle wishes to let her dearest friend Linnea (Lily) know that she is praying for you, and has a big warm hug waiting for you on your next visit together at Matinenda.

Sharon and Family,
So sorry to hear of Chucks passing. We were colleagues at Schurz for about 10 years and he was always such a professional in all that he did. I thought that he sounded so upbeat when we spoke on the phone several weeks ago. Remember all of the good times.

Sharon, Linnea,
Chuck asked me to say a prayer for him the last year or two. How time flies. He was a good friend, a good man and a great adventurer and fisherperson. I still can't figure out how even last summer he had more energy than I have had for years. I hope he's connected energy with our other fishing buddies. Sue and I remember good times over many years. more later. If we can do anything upnorth when you are there let us know.

Sharon and Linnea,

You have been fortunate to have Chuck in your life. Thank you for sharing Chuck with us and his many friends. The saying, "to know him is to love him" is so apropos in his case. And we do.

Good fishin' Chuck.

Dear Sharon and Linnea,
I am so sorry for your loss of Chuck. His happy face, and enthusiastic personality will certainly be missed on the lake. Chuck was always so friendly and willing to help with anything anyone needed. I also have fond memories of discussions with Chuck about cameras. He was a real sweetheart and I will miss him. My thoughts are with the two of you. I hope to see you both later this summer. Our pizza parties will certainly not be the same without Chuck.

Dear Sharon and family
I was so sad to hear of the passing of Chuck. I have visited Chicago only once and had the priviledge of meeting your family. The highlight of my visit was a trip to see Manon at the Opera House. Chuck met us at the station and escorted us to the Opera House. Mary and I had a wonderful evening and you were kind enough to take us back to Alissa and Phil's where we were staying. Chuck struck me as a very gentle man and his kindness left a lasting impression. My sincere condolences to you and your family.

Chuck was a great guy and a fine musician, an indelible part of Lyric Opera of Chicago and its history. He will be sorely missed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

June 14, 2010

Dear Sharon,

I was shocked and so sorry to hear of Chuck's passing. I guess his bravery made me think he could laugh this off too.
He was one my favorite people and gave me many good memories of 7ASO times and of my return to Chicago. He put me up in his apartment building (along with some other nuts) till I got my feet on the ground, and taught me several survival skills.
Although I didn't get to see you folks much or for long enough since I moved to Oregon, I have nothing but good memories of a feeling of fun and celebration at every contact.
Please accept my deepest condolences, and tell Linnea that many people she might not remember meeting loved her daddy, just as she and you do.
If I can be of any help at any time - please let me know!
With sorrow, and gratitude to Chuck for enriching my life,
Grant Hagestedt

I have had some of the greatest pleasure working backstage with Chuck. He was one of the nicest and most caring guys to be with. We often chatted about our mutual interests which are photography and woodworking. How am I going to go on working the stage banda without good ol' Chuck there? That's gonna leave a void inside me. He really made a difference at Lyric for so many years.
I will miss him a lot when I set up the banda. Rest in peace, buddy.

Dear Sharon,
I respected and admired Chuck very much as a musician, and was proud to call him a friend. I enjoyed playing in the Harper Symphony with both of you, and our social times together when I lived in the Chicago area.

I send my most sincere condolences, and assure you that you and Linnea will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Linnea,
I know you must be very sorry about your dad. I will miss seeing him at your lessons. I loved the way you and he could enjoy your music. It's a special language you shared that not many understand. There was so much joy and love in his eyes, whenever you played. I could tell he thought you were a very talented young lady. He would tell me how musically he thought you played. And I always agreed.
I remember how he would be reading one of your books, so the two of you could enjoy talking about it. You always wanted to know, "what part are you at, now?" He would tell you what was happening and you would smile and nod, remembering that part of the story, yourself.. And there were the times he would wait for you to jump on the trampoline. "Come on, Linnea, we have to go now." And you would say, "Just a few more minutes." And he would always wait for you to finish. I felt like your father was a great buddy to you.
I love you,
Deb Lynch
