Clyde was a giant of a man, gruff, but ever so kind. He was passionate about everything he believed in and just as passionate about things he felt were wrong or misguided. He was honest and trustworthy and not afraid to speak his mind. Clyde did not believe in playing games, a good trait. He opened his heart and his mind to all individuals with whom he came into contact. I am glad I had the opportunity to know Clyde. He readily shared his time and strived for perfection. Many times he would write and tell me he was making a tape but that he was not yet pleased with how he sounded. He spent many hours recording and re-recording. He loved karaoke and liked sharing his passion for it. When I play one of his tapes, even though tears well up in my eyes, I smile a little knowing how much pleasure and enjoyment this brought him. He is missed.

It was my pleasure to work with Clyde. He gave 110% to his work. I remember the evening he was given a Veteran's award. He told me later it was the happiest moment of his life. I'm glad I could be a part of that moment.

Clyde,
Knowing you, you are probably at the Big Rail Yard in the sky... About 9 years ago I went to the Unemployment Office in N. Aurora and I had the priviledge of meeting with you. You said well Mike I got a job opening at Chicago North Western or I can get you an application to work here. I took you up on the challenge to work at the unemployment office. Hey what did I know, it appearred to me your job was pretty simple. Well anyways friend...Thank you for the services you provided to me that day. You will be missed for sure. By the way Clyde, I'll try to take good care of those Veterans just as you did for me and so many others. God Bless

They came and came and kept coming for the remeberance of a giant of a man still seemingly humming...
They spoke of his accomplishments and all of the caring. For in his life was a full measure of meaningful sharing...
They praised him in writing as well as in song. For they now had begun to realize that he was truly gone...
They laughed at his youth which he had left far behind, now recalling his wonderful mentoring mind...
They were all there, friends and staff. Surely he was looking down, if only to laugh...
Thank all of you for the wonderful years, for now I take leave to brush back my own tears...
I wish you well with my last breath of the day, hoping you will accept that, "I had to do it my way."

A wonderful man, who brought smiles to all.
Singing from the joy inside of him.
Clyde always asked about the family, was truly interested in what was going on in the lives of others. He never had bad words to say of anyone.
It hurts to have him gone because he had part of us with him.
He is missed by all.

Clyde wanted nothing more than the best service for his veterans. Clyde wanted people to just be honest. At times we agreed, at times we didn't, but just be honest and say what you felt and Clyde respected you. After the first visit to the doctor Clyde and I spent considerable time on the phone. Terry C. had already tried the second opinion, let's see about this approach. I was left with enouraging my very good friend to have the surgury. But hey, they do these all the time, it's no big concern. How little did I know? In retrospect, there was no option but to have the surgury. I just wish I could have been the first call and pushed for the second opinion. I miss you my friend, Imiss your music, I miss your complaining, I miss the dozen emails each day. But I miss my friend and all he was. GOODBYE CLYDE.

I find words inadequate to describe
the void left by Clyde's passing.
Some may have found him somewhat abrasive at their first encounter, but many will attest that he wore his compassion on both sleeves. I will miss his wit and humor most of all- Clyde kept the darkness at bay.
My deepest and sincerest condolences to his family.

I have had the privilege of knowing Clyde for over 25 years. He was truly one of the good guys. A man who always said what he thought. He devoted his life to improving the quality of life for his veterans. The last time I spoke with him was by his beloved Karaoke machine. I told him that I wanted to sing "My way" and asked his opinion. He told me that it was the hardest Sinatra song to sing because it contained 9 different chords. He suggested I try Chicago. I told him that I wanted to sing "my way". He then told me "go for it". He had a gift for instilling confidence in everyone he talked to. A man who truly touched people in a special way. I for one will always miss him.

Clyde was a unique person, well liked, respected for his honesty, integrity and compassion. He was a very outspoken person and was not afraid to say what had to be said. Just by talking to him and watching him you could tell he enjoyed his work and the satisfaction of helping his fellow veterans. Clyde, you will be dearly missed. May God be with you and comfort you. My condolences to your family and loved ones.

Clyde, was the consumate facilitator. His knowledge of the information, his theatrics in presentation, and his love for the TAP workshops, made him the main attraction. I missed him when he wasn't on the agenda, and I miss him even more now. I pray for his family, and I know that God has welcomed him home.

I have been with IDES almost 6 years now. It didn't take me long after I started to know when I heard the name "Clyde" who Clyde was and for that I will be eternally grateful. I have been in meetings with Clyde where your outspoken personality appeared. Thank you Clyde for saying things that the rest of us only thought. You kept us on our toes so that we could do our job of helping veterans to the best of our ability. If I can become the Veterans Employment Representative that you were Clyde, I will have accomplished more than I ever thought I could. GOD BLESS YOU,CLYDE! My condolences go out to your family and loved ones in this hour of sorrow.

I am blessed to have had Clyde as a presenter during my Transition Assistance Program (TAP) class at Great Lakes Naval Base. His humor and wit kept us all alert wondering what he would do, say, or wear next. His interviewing tips and good natured fun will be with me for a lifetime. He will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to family and friends.

Clyde was one of the people I really admired. He was himself, warts and all. You knew where you stood. Too many people are fake people. Clyde was a real, honest person.
Model railroading was one of his passions. It was an honor to share a little of that with him. He really enjoyed the happy chaos of having twenty people or so over to visit and share his enjoyment of the hobby on a Saturday night.
He will be missed.

I too met Clyde through our mutual hobby of model railroading. It was my pleasure to be invited to his home to enjoy his layout, Clyde was a gracious host. We will miss his friendship and his desire to help the rest of us enjoy our hobby to the greatest extent possible. I sense that he got a large portion of his hobby enjoyment watching others enjoy his creation, and that attitude made him a pleaasure to know.
I will not be able to attend the services Saturday, please accept my sympathy and know I will be thinking of you and will ask for God's blessing on Clyde and the rest of his family.

Clyde and I shared the same hobby. As the other entrys have stated, Clyde was a true character and a pleasure to know. He was very passionate about anything he cared about; be it his cats, his hobby, or other people. We have lost a person of value who cannot be replaced. He leaves all of us who knew him richer for the experience. I regret I will not be able to attend his serivces. I hope this will provide some mesure of condolence to his family.
I will be there in spirit this Saturday.
God speed and God bless Clyde. You will be missed.

Clyde and I have worked together in the TAP CLASS at Great Lakes Naval Base for over 5 1/2 years. When we both grew beards the vets in the class would assume we were brothers a sailor & a marine. Clyde would say "Andy you & I are alike we care about the vets". Clyde was larger than life in that class room - I was the straight man & Clyde was the Robert Williams of Comedy & talent. He touched all for it was obvious he cared and fought for them regardless where he stepped. Clyde was my friend & I was his even though he could't get this old Marine Sgt sing Karaoke. On behalf of those who went through our classes & myself I like to express-to his family the love that we had for Clyde. God Bless you all in hour of sorrow.

Clyde stood up, literally, for what he believed in at great cost to his own career progression. He was filled with passion for his cause, which was veterans employment. He detested going 1/2 way across the country for training because he didn't feel it was of value when others felt good training, bad training, it's better than being in the office. Clyde was an unforgetable charactor and I'll miss him dearly.

Clyde was one of the most passionate believers in helping fellow Veterans I have ever known. He went above and beyond the necessary for everyone that he could. While his methods and techniques were not always those of the mainstream, he got the job done. He was, also, the only person in the world who could have gotten me to sing Karaoke. Clyde was one of the good guys. He will be greatly missed.
