Daniel Weiskopf Obituary

Daniel Eric Weiskopf passed away on February 28, 2017, at the age of 62. His sudden loss leaves an emotional hole for so many, including his loving mother, Johannah Weiskopf, her partner, Nissim Eskenazi, and his loving siblings, Amy Weiskopf and Tom Weiskopf and his wife Lisa, and his aunts and cousins and friends. Dan was predeceased by his father Malcolm Weiskopf. He will be remembered for his infectious love of jazz as well as his sax playing. He even named two feral cats he adopted Billie (Holiday) and Janis (Joplin). He liked to point out that he was a music lover and not an audiophile, but he was both. He said his stereo was as close as you could get to having Sonny Rollins playing in his living room. He loved pool and approached it with the same scholarly thoroughness that he tackled all his pursuits. He spent a lot of time at Marie's Golden Cue. He was an authority on political shenanigans in Chicago and elsewhere. He loved living and working in Chicago and loved showing off the city's neighborhoods to visitors, especially food and music venues. He also loved W.C. Fields, and the three stooges. For 25 years he used his eagle-eye as the editorial production manager for Incontext Publishing Partners in Evanston,Il. More recently he worked at 4300 Marine Drive. He got to know many of the wonderful residents, helping them and becoming part of their lives. They, too, will miss his caring and kindness.

Dan, you will be missed, but I will still be warmed by memories of listening to great music on your stereo at Grinnell, and that share. Thanks for the jazz.

RIP, Dan. You and I were roommates at Grinnell College, 1974-1976. You turned me on to jazz. I remember we went to Chicago to hear Miles Davis in concert. You told me that, as often happened, Miles was to be a no-show. Instead, it was Weather Report. Jaco Pastorius, Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter. It was a wonderful concert. Thanks, Dan.

I knew Dan in high school at Rich Central in IL. We were in band and jazz band together and quickly became friends. I would go to his house after school and listen to the latest jazz recordings (Dan turned me on to so many of the great jazz players) while playing pool downstairs. I was searching on the Internet to see if I could get in touch with him recently, and sadly I found this link. My condolences to the family. He was such an intelligent, kind-hearted, up-beat individual - I'm so happy to have had him in my life as a friend, and am very saddened to know that he is no longer with us.

My deepest sympathies are with the Dan's family. Please know that you are in our thoughts as you grieve this loss. Dan was an important member of the team. All of his coworkers thought highly of him. Dan was always willing to go the extra mile for anyone that worked with him and he will be missed.

With sincere sympathy,

What a brave and unselfish friend Dan was! A pleasure having known him & laughed (alot!) with him, & learned some harsh but valuable lessons from such a stingingly sudden loss.. Thanks for lending me the "Being There" dvd, buddy, (which you always were!), now I "understand" -- Dan loved his Peter Sellars flicks! Promise I'll watch "Strangelove" too! -- which he raved about. And I know i have a cd of his sax playing laying around here, which I need to find. Blessings to his beloved Family & friends that we all find some solace, somehow. Peace out until we meet again - Jim Piper
