Dear Uncle David,
You have been on my mind every day since the day I had heard you had passed. It is so amazing that we all go on about our days never really thinking about the people who mean so much to us, it is so sad that it takes something like this to make us realize how lucky we each are to have such special people in our lives!! I will never forget the huge smile that was always on your face! Thank you so much for the most wonderful beach trips in Laguna, those are some of the best memorys in my life! We always had such a great time when you were with us , you always had a plan on what we were doing next. We will all miss you so much! I know you are in such a better place and in so much peace! ~~~~ Edie and Grace , I Love you both more then any words can say! Stay strong and know that you both are surrounded by family and friends that care so much about you both! I know God is watching over you, and will help you get through this.I Love You!!

Oh Edie,

I'm heartbroken for you. What a magnanimous, warm, vital, generous, and kind person to have as your husband and friend. His energy was vibrant and you couldn't not know when David was there. I loved being with you and your family on the too few occasions when that was my privilege. I won't even try for words of consolation. I hardly had time with David and I feel grief. No sense in even trying to imagine your sense of loss. I do know, though, that the reverberations of David and all of his beautiful energy don't die. You, Gracie, and all those of us who were so blessed to spend ANY amount of time with David will feel him and have him as a part of us forever. My thoughts really are with you. If only my sadness could take away a moment of yours...

Love

The O'Brien family knows well that when you have a name plate on my grandmother's shelf, you are very much a part of the Bunte family. And that is exactly what David, Edie, and Grace are - a beloved part of the Bunte family. David has always been like a third uncle to myself. Through my 16 years of life he has given my family love, laughter, friendship, and most of all, family. There are no words to descibe how much he has meant to my family and the impact he has had upon my life. Edie and Grace, you are in our thoughts and prayers. We love you.

Dave brought me onto the floor at the cbot and got me my first job out of college. He was one of the nicest, wittiest, caring people I have ever met. He was my boss for 8 months, but 8 months that I'll never forget. Dave was never short on advice, one liners, and great stories. He truly loved his family and I only wish I had known him longer. Thanks for everything Dave. You are truly appreciated and will be deeply missed. Nick

Edie & Grace & O'Brien Family, This is so devastating I am still trying to grasp it all.. David was so full of life, his smile that mischievous grin, and his kind and generous heart, he will be missed dearly by all of us here on earth but will certainly entertain those in heaven.. Although John & I haven't seen you in way to long we cherish the many memories we have together, La Quinta, Tucson.. We haven't seen Grace since she was a little girl but I know that David thought the world of both his girls. We love you both and are so sorry for your loss.. May David's kind spitrit always stay close to our hearts.. xoxoxo

I am friends with Grace O'Brien but, Mr. O'Brien was my friend too. I've known the O'Brien family for 4 years, long enough to know that I love them. When my parents pulled me aside to spill the bad news, I was crying and thinking about how you don't realize how much you love someone until they are gone and how you will never see them again. I have shared many good times with the O'Brian family, too many to list. But, here are a few; like the time me and Grace were re-enacting a Youtube Video and he burped on the camera, and all the times he took us extreme tubing. I think of those good times and I always think of Mr. O'Brian driving his boat and looking back at us while Mrs. O'Brien was spotting . . . and everyone was smiling and so happy.

Mr. O'Brien . . . I miss you!
Love, Joanna Kristmann

What a tragic, tragic loss. I can hardly believe this is happening to such a dedicated, loving, and wonderful family!!! The man upstairs works in mysterious ways... The rhyme & reason is beyond us. To his old friends and new friends, I will always be thankful. Think happy thoughts about David. Picture him driving a boat pulling Grace and friends tubing. He is in a better place. Mary O'Brien

This is a blast from the past, that's for sure. I just stumbled on David's obit while looking for something else and couldn't believe it. I hadn't seen David in about 36 years. We were friends in grammar school at Beye. He, Danny Brennan and I were pretty good friends from Kindergarten until we move from Oak Park to Riverside in '72. Seeing his name in the obits really has hit me. My own cousin passed away and was buried from Dreschler Brown and Williams and the mass at St. Catherine/St Lucy (Davey and I also went to CCD together and our moms played bridge together) little more than a week ago and his brother Mike came to the services for my 37 year old cousin. I just came across a photo of him from kindergarten and one from 2nd grade. I had always hoped we could re-establish our friendship as adults.
