Donald Frede Obituary

Donald L. Frede, 70, of Brea, CA, made his tee time with the Lord on March 11, 2009. He was born in Chicago on July 30, 1938 to H. Donald and Kathleen Frede. Don attended St. Mel High School and graduated in 1956. He attended Christian Brothers College in Memphis, TN before serving in the U.S. Army. He married Josephine, nee LoCoco, on Oct. 28, 1961 at Our Lady Help of Christian Church. His career in insurance sales relocated him to Orange County, CA in 1969. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife; brother, Robert (Patricia) of Chicago; four adoring daughters, Lisa Miller (Don), Lori Myers (Michael), Lynn Kosman (Michael) and Dina (fiance, Kevin Myers); and four beautiful grandchildren. We will celebrate his enduring faith, courage and humor with a Memorial Mass on Tuesday, March 17, at St. Angela Merici Church in Brea. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Memorial Foundation in Fullerton, CA.

Hey Dad...
How's it going? I've been missing you SO much! Our Angels made a good run for the World Series, didn't they? Damn Yankees! At least they were beat by the best, right? I see you've been busy with Notre Dame. 6-4? Not bad...and their losses have been close. Mike says you owe him $20 bucks on the Navy game. I'd like to know when it went from $5 to $20??? Ha! Mom is doing okay but you know she's missing you like crazy. So, what's your handicap these days? Haha...of course I mean golf! Well, we all love you so much and miss you too. I know I tell you that every day, just like when you were here with me. And I am so lucky that those were your last words to me too. It helps me more than you could ever know. Especially on days like today when I just wish I could sit by your side and talk with you. I love you, Dad. Always.

Jo & Family
Our thoughts and prayers immediately went out to you when we heard of Don's passing. I'm sorry so we were so far away at that time and could not attend his service. Whenever I think of Don, the image that automatically comes to my mind was at one of the Duffy's first golf tournaments. I had just starting playing golf, so this was the first time I had ever had a converation with Don on the subject. I still have this image in my mind of how happy his face looked and how excited he was to share his knowledge with me. That is the picture of Don I will keep with me forever.

Hi,

My sympathy to you. I remember Don Frede from grammar school at St. Mel in Chicago, 1949 to 1952. Details are fuzzy, but I recall going to grades 6-8 with him, and probably we went to highschool together at St. Mel. I saw him often (probably we were in the same home room), and I remember we used to have an occasional tussle during recess outside between the church and the school building. It was good fun, and I don't recall anyone being hurt.

Dear Aunt Jo and West coast cousins,
I would like to extend my sympathy and support to all of you at this time, as an Irish legend, Don Frede is born into time forever. A man who's legacy will always be with us. One whose larger then life presence, has left each of us, a little part of his stout carisma. His confident walk and ways will be missed by everyone. Anyone who's ever met Uncle Don will know this to be very true.
I'm sure God has an open tee time waiting for Uncle Don, just as soon as he can close one more deal on that road to eternity. He's never been one to cast a shadow in one place for too long, and I'm sure that will still be the case as HE watches over all us for all time to come. Go Irish...

Dear Jo,Bob and family,
Ginger and I just learned of Don's passing today, and want to express our deepest sympathies to you and the family. I have so many wonderful memories of a great guy, who some 53 years ago was a "scrappy little Irish halfback" on St.Mel's football teams (both grammar and High School) and the many good times and laughs we shared, especially coming and going from practices; but much more importantly, I have so many memories of a great guy, with an enormous and very generous heart.Although Don was unable to make it to our 50th, as he had hoped he could, I'm especially happy now, and feel especially fortunate and grateful now, to have had that very special opportunity to spend that afternoon luncheon together again--laughing like the crazy kids we once were, and sharing the events that took place during our 50th reunion--the great stories so many of his old friends shared of our days with the Brothers-- and the many good times we'd all shared with Don. Don had a "loving and devoted teammate" in you Jo, and he was obviously extremely proud of you and your daughters. Even after 50 Years, and with all the difficulties and challenges that Don had experienced physically, that scrappy big-hearted kid from the old westside of Chicago was still fully intact. God bless him! He was truly an inspiration for us all. And he will be missed. But please know that we will remember Don, and you,in our thoughts and prayers.

Jo,Bob,and Family,
We were very sorry to hear of Don's passing. The medical problems had to make his latter years very trying. He had to be very proud the way his family rallied around him in his times of need.

Jo and Girls,

So very sorry to hear about Don, my brother saw his picture in the paper, recognized him and called me. What a send off for an Irishman to have his funeral on St. Patrick's Day.

Our thoughts and prayers and with you at this time. We still cherish our many good times together with the Freed's over the years.

As one who shared several an "eventful" St. Patrick's Day celebration with Don, those memories alone will always be deeply embedded in my mind as some my best!! On one or more of those, Bill and I would walk into the Frede house and Don would immediately turn on the record player and blare out the Fighting Irish song, to which Bill and Don would immediately start marching to it all around their house!!! I am so saddened to lose a wonderful friend. My heart goes out to you, Lisa, Lynn, Lori and Dina....I know the love you had for your Father and have truly been in awe of the unbelievable support you've given your Father these past 10 years. And Jo, my forever friend, may God bless you and watch over you for the rest of your days. You have been incredible with your love and devotion to Don. I will continue to always be here for you. My love and condolences to the ENTIRE family. Diane (Scales) Duffy
