Edward "Eddie" Berner, known as "Chicago Eddie" the number one blues fan of Chicago, passed away Sept. 10, 2007 after a long illness. He will be remembered for his love of people, the blues community and the City of Chicago. Despite his disabilities he was always a regular at the many blues events around the city. He will be missed by his brother Gerald Berner; sister-in-law Harriet; family and all who came to know him. Nobody loved Chicago more. There will be a memorial service held Sunday, Sept. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the B.L.U.E.S. Club on Halsted.

Dear Eddie, I still got the Blues for You. Once we had made a photo, the number one Bluesfan from Germany and the number one from the whole world, you Eddie. I saw You every year on the Festival. Your life was an inspiration for me, I'm from Germany by the way...

I will miss Eddie and will remember him each time I go to a club, Blues Fest or a fundraiser for the Coalition for the Homeless.
I went to Eddie's memorial service Sunday night and it was a great tribute to a simple man who loved the Blues and loved the people who played the Blues. They loved him too. The house was packed with performers, friends, fellow Blues lovers and family.
I will miss Eddie's phone calls and his annual birthday party but I was lucky to know "Chicago's Number One Blues Fan".

Eddie,
I never knew your name but we have partied together many of times. I have had an 8x10 picture of you hanging in my living room among all of the other Blues greats; Muddy, BB, Eric, Howling wolf, Lonnie, Ronnie and you.
Rest in peace my brother in the Blues.

So sad to hear about Eddie's passing. He was always kind to me and I always enjoyed talking to him. I was just asking about him a few days ago at Buddy's.
