Eleanore Unger Obituary

Eleanore Lange Perreault Unger, born November 3rd, 1917. At age 103, she went to be with our Lord, December 25th, 2020. She was a loving wife and best friend for over 32 years to the late Francis Perreault and following that, for almost 25 years to the late Robert M. Unger. She was a proud mother of Lawrence (the late Jennifer) Perreault, Richard (Beverly) Perreault, Sharon (Wayne) Winkelman, and Lauren (Garth Sheriff) Perreault. They blessed her with twelve grandchildren: Lawrence Jr., Steven, David, and Shane Perreault, Cristin (Todd) Taylor, Marty (Kim) Winkelman, Ross (Melissa) Winkelman, Alison (Dr. Coby) Maxwell, Eliana and Dr. McKenna Sheriff, Matthew and Dr. Amanda Midboe; twenty-three great grandchildren were her pride and joy. They include Jon, Elaine, Jason, Christopher, William, Maxwell, Carson, Sydney, Emily, Sadie, Chloe', Claire, Bailey, Cameron, Philip, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Zach, Brady, Hunter, Cole, Brock, and Bryn. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Vivian Lange, and countless nieces and nephews whom she adored. Eleanore was a loving sister to the late Helen Wilcer, Emily McGinty, Bertha Hadar, Anna Exler, Vivian Bagus, and Leonard Lange. Through the years she has suffered the loss of many nieces and nephews who she also enjoyed spending time with. She was a family historian who could, even at 103, recall birthdates, anniversaries, and details of her extended family. Throughout her life family members could, without fail, open a card or receive a phone call for their life celebrations. Ellie worked throughout her life, making airplane parts for WWII, as an office secretary, and in later years she was a waitress for over 35 years. She was a proud American who worked as an Election Judge for 50 years. These endeavors suited her outgoing personality because she loved people. As a thrifty resale shopper nothing pleased her more than being able to gift friends and family an item she purchased JUST for them. She remembered their conversations so these small gifts were welcomed by all. This continued up until a few days before her death when she called a niece to send dolls to her grandchild. Her personality was sweet, but with a sassy wit. When called "Little Ole Biddy" by a grandchild, she was pleased and enjoyed hearing it! Her cooking was unsurpassed – having survived the Great Depression and WWII rationing, she could make anything into something delicious. There was no wasting of food when she cooked! Everyone always looked forward to her recipes. At the many family picnics she organized, her food reigned supreme. She also loved word and card games. Her skill at these was witnessed by her family and Bickford residents alike. If you won a game with her, it was a small miracle! Her love of all things Chicago Bears was legendary in our family. Her knowledge of strategies and players could not be easily surpassed. She will be missed. However, we were blessed to have her in our life and know that she will be welcomed through the gates of heaven and into the arms of our Lord. Her reunion with Him as well as Francis and Bob will be glorious. She taught her family to live and age well by example. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project. As testament to her love of sports, her parting words to all were "Go Bears"! At this time, services will be limited to immediate family only. A memorial service, complete with a celebration of life, will be held at a later date.

Although I only met Eleanore once in person I feel very blessed that I got to speak with her over the phone a few times. She was always very concerned about my health and would ask my mom how I was doing frequently. After having surgery she sent me a gift card and told me to buy something special with it and think of her. Eleanore was one of the most thoughtful and caring people that I have met and I feel blessed that she was in my life even if I didn't know her as well as some. Sending my love and condolences to all that knew and loved her. She will be missed greatly.

What a special Aunt you have been! You were always there to lend an encouraging word after my Mom, your sister, passed many years ago. Always remembering the special dates, and even what my kids were doing! Our chats on the phone always made my day. I will smile as I remember you at your 100th birthday celebration, sitting by the band, clapping your hands and smiling ear to ear. I will miss you so very much. A part of you will always stay with me. ❤

Ellie was a spitfire and a hoot and had the biggest heart ever. I'll never forget her intelligence and wit. I only got to see her a few times when she visited Lauren in CA, but she had the rare ability to make everyone around her feel uplifted and listened to. If you were lucky enough to cross her path, you would immediately feel her kindness and respect. I am so grateful to have known her.

My heart is breaking and words are failing me. You were the best Mom anyone could ever ask for, and after Daddy died you were both mother and father to me. I will always remember how wise you were and what a hard-working, kind person you were, with a sharp wit and a love of family. You would never hesitate to make fun of yourself in order to make someone laugh. Your cooking was legendary in the family; you couldn't bear to serve store-bought food when you could make it yourself, and you loved nothing more than having a big crowd you could feed "just a little snick-snack" to. You had so much loss in your life -- two husbands, a newborn, all your siblings and so many nieces and nephews, yet you always saw the glass as more than half full. There is a much bigger hole in our lives right now than one tiny little 5 foot 2 "Old Biddy" should be able to make. We will heal, but we will never be the same. I love you Mom and always will. Watch over my family, ok?

Not everyone is as lucky as I have been to have an aunt like Eleanore in my life for so long. I feel blessed! Her sense of humor and her stories gave me new perspectives and brightened my days. It was a joy to talk to her. The world would definitely be a better place if there were more people like Eleanore in it. She had an open and loving heart that inspired others to be the best version of themselves. Thank you for sharing your light and love with me, Aunt El. You will be in my heart until we meet again.

I feel so blessed to have had 28 years with you. You are the best grandma I could ask for. My grandma taught me so much about kindness, generosity, and it was always a great hearing her wisdom. My grandma was full of stories. She was always delighted to get a phone call, and over the moon when we would visit. I loved memories of Wheaton growing up, which eventually transitioned into seeing grandma in Rockford at the Bickford house. Grandma was the real deal when it came to playing many games. If you ever spent time with grandma, you never left hungry, for grandma, serving food was serving love. I remember when I was a young girl, one of my favorite things was when grandma would rub my back. And she always did it for me, she was so selfless. I loved sleeping next to grandma, even though she listened to her radio at an extremely loud volume. I loved every moment with her! I can’t wait to see her again. I love you grandma. I will make you proud.
