Eugene Bartkus Obituary

Eugene Algimantas Bartkus, engineer, was born on the estate of Zubiskis, county of Trakai, Lithuania, on April 4, 1925. He studied engineering at the University of Kaunas in Lithuania, at the Technische Hochschule in Darmstadt, Germany, and at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, from which he received his master's degree in 1955. He founded his own engineering company, Bartkus & Associates, of which he was the director from 1968 until his retirement in 1997. From 1958 to 1961, he was the chairman of the Lithuanian National Association, and from 1959 he was its representative in the Lithuanian American Council. He was this Council's long-time chairman. Eugene A. Bartkus is survived by his wife of 52 years, Danguole Bartkus; his son, Dr. Darius Bartkus of McNeil Hospital in Chicago, and his wife, Diane; his daughter, Professor Viva Bartkus of the University of Notre Dame; and his three grandchildren, Aras, Ava, and Isabel. Funeral Service Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at the Petkus Lemont Funeral Home, 12401 S. Archer Ave., Lemont, IL. Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis Mission, Lemont, IL at 11 a.m. Interment Lithuanian National Cemetery. I remember loving Eugene with all my heart even though I was so young. Unfortunately he never got to meet his fourth grandchild, Quinn, but sometimes my parents see Eugene´s face in him and it makes them happy. I hope my brother grows to be such a good person like Eugene was.
