Francis Morgan Obituary

Frank J. Morgan, an American businessman and philanthropist who served as President of The Quaker Oats Company, died peacefully on October 15, 2022, in Barrington, IL. surrounded by family. He was 97. Frank J. Morgan was born September 13, 1925 in New Haven, CT. He moved to Bridgeport, CT at an early age and graduated from Harding High School in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Piedmont, Store Keeper 3rd Class and subsequently served in the V-12 Officer Program at Yale University. He graduated Yale in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Administration and completed the Program for Management Development (PMD) from the Harvard University Business School in 1966. Early in his career, Frank was employed in various manufacturing companies, including Chance Vought (division of United Technologies) where he helped lead the project team for the F7U Cutlass Fighter. He later worked at GM, The Remington Arms Co., and American Bosch. Frank accepted a position as corporate manager of industrial engineering at the Quaker Oats Company (now a division of Pepsico) and over a 26 year career held a number of positions including Plant Superintendent, President of Quaker Canada, Head of Quaker's International division, Director of the Corporation and President and Chief Operating Officer of the Quaker Oats Company from 1983 until his retirement in 1990. He also served on the corporate boards of Quaker Canada, Molson, Square D Company and Elger Industries (Chairman & Board Member). In retirement he supported a number of philanthropic organizations including Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, and Glenwood Academy. In 1952 he married his first love Mary Margaret (nee Cunningham) of Bridgeport, CT. and together they raised five children. After Mary passed away in 2008, Frank was blessed to find love again and, in 2012 he married Josefina ("Inna") Blanco-Rivas a resident of Naples, FL and native of Spain. He was an avid golfer, downhill skier, boater, reader and loved to attend live performances, listen to music (especially "My Way" by Frank Sinatra) and always found time to spend with family and friends, including his regular coffee club in both Barrington and Naples. He was a long time parishioner of St. Anne Catholic Community (Barrington, IL) and St. William Catholic Church (Naples, FL). Frank J. Morgan was pre-deceased in death by his parents, Joseph F. Morgan and Anne (Moore) Morgan, and his sisters Alice Haynes and Helen Shortell. Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Inna Morgan; five children, Mark (Jan), Craig (Sue), Kevin (Jami), Susan Morgan Bradley (Brian) and Karen Morgan Holmberg (Don); as well as ten grandchildren, Kiley, Kaitlin, Patrick, K.C., Michael, Aidan, Maeve, Katherine, Megan and Brianna. Visitation Thursday, October 20th, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook), Barrington, IL. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Church, corner of Franklin & Ela Streets, Barrington, IL at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 21st, followed by a burial service at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Development Office, 450 W. Highway 22, Barrington, IL 60010 or to Glenwood Academy, Development and Communications Office, 500 West 187th Street, Glenwood, IL. 60425.
