Irene Vecchione Obituary

Irene J. Vecchione, 88 (nee Damato) of Wood Dale, Illinois, passed peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Born August 5, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. She was the only daughter of the late Michael and Virginia Damato. Her immediate family, including brothers Michael and Louis, are together once again with Irene in heaven. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert John Vecchione; one son, Robert and wife Mary; and two daughters Cheryl Kurtz and husband Les; Mary Jo Powers and husband Dan; seven grandchildren, Amy, Brian, Robert, Michelle, Christina, Julie, and Vincent, and four great grandchildren, Mariah, Ayden, Madison, and Nora. It would be impossible to list the hundreds of friends and acquaintances spanning the last 50 years who referred to Irene as simply "Ma". Those extended offspring will remember Irene fondly as always being greeted at the door with open arms and warm hugs. "My door is always open to those who wish to visit and we always have plenty of food for everyone." Those who knew and loved Irene will not be surprised that she desired no wake or funeral. Her wish was simply for her immediate family to come together and celebrate her life. Irene had phenomenal Hospice care over the past 18 months provided by her angel, Nurse Janet Wehr. Memorial donations may be made in Irene's name to Harbor Light Hospice, 800 Roosevelt Road, Building C, Suite 206, Glen Ellyn, Illinois, 60137.
