I wish to express my gratitude and reverence to a great priest and a wonderful man.
Father James O'Gara had a great love for the new Italian immigrants at Saint Peters Parish in Toronto.
My family, among many others, was one of those whom he touched with his care and kindness.
He came into our lives as a young priest from Chicago. He must have been in his late twenties then.
He took interest in the Italian immigrants and to communicate better, he learned Italian and entered information on their parish bulletin in Italian and signed his name translated in Italian,
Padre Giacomo O'Gara.
Sometimes on Sundays on his way back from a walk to the newspaper stand on Bloor street, he would buy the New York Times and would pay a passing visit to our home and inquire about our well being. He was also generous when the exhibition of a renowned artist like Picasso came to the Royal Ontario Museum. He would take my teenage brothers to see it.
He took interest in their education and when they had reached high school age, he helped us choose a suitable school for them. We immigrants were living in a new country, a new culture, and a new language. His guidance was very helpful to us. Father O'Gara celebrated my wedding mass in Italian language on July 19th 1975 at St. Bernard Church, Mt. Lebanon, PA. He remained in touch with our family for many years and the memories he left with us are of a caring, gentle mannered priest with a warm inward laughter who excelled in carrying God's mission by example to those he encountered.
Father O'Gara I was one of those blessed and privileged to have known you.

Visited our offices to say weekly Mass despite a long commute. He was kind, gentle, and always upbeat. I wish I could have met him earlier. RIP Father.

A great priest of Jesus, a kind person to all, helping us whom he met in his journey through life, treating all ...doing unto others....as his brothers and sisters in God. arthur Murphy...

In loving memory to the man who left one of the biggest impressions on my life and gave me moral direction. To me and many others he was a father figure and a great leader. I wish I could have spoken more to him but he has already departed to a better place. I wish for him to rest in everlasting peace.
