Fern, Jane M.
(nee McCown), 89, longtime North shore resident, September 1, 2010. Beloved wife of the late Albert L. Dear mother of Marie Louise Fern and John David Fern. Loving grandmother of Kellie, Allison, Justin, and Megan. Dear friend and companion of Ann Hanson. Daughter of the late Raymond Butler McCown and Edith Lester McCown. Jane was Born in Santa Monica, CA and served as a WAVE officer in WWII attaining the rank of LT. senior grade. She was a graduate of Barnard College in NY, and was employed in international banking until she and her husband moved to Illinois in 1954. After raising her family, Jane worked as a parish administrator in Evanston. She enjoyed international travel, writing and spending time with her family and friends. Memorial visitation was held Saturday September 4, from 2:30 p.m. until time of service 4 p.m. at St. Giles Episcopal Church, 3025 Walters Ave. Northbrook, IL. Interment Private. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greater Chicago Food Depository 4100 W. Ann Lurie Place, Chicago, IL 60632. www.chicagofoodbank.org. Arr. by N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, Glenview. So sorry for your loss. Your mom was a very special lady and will be sorely missed. I feel priveleged to have known her. Just the thought of her warms my heart and brings a smile to my face.
