Jeffrey Miller Obituary

Jeffrey Robert Miller, 51, passed away on August 1. Always a fighter, Jeff battled cancer for almost three years, but ended his struggle peacefully and surrounded by family and loved ones at home in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Jeff was born in Palos Park, Illinois and after attending Sandburg High School, proudly graduated with a business degree from the University of Illinois in 1987 and went on to earn an MBA from Indiana University. A third generation owner, Jeff grew the family retail hardware business with vision and foresight and evolved it into an industrial supply mainstay in the Greater O'Hare area with the help of dedicated and talented team members. Known for his gregarious and larger-than-life personality, Jeff's passion for involvement and leadership was well-known in the community. Jeff balanced his work at Miller Industrial with a profound dedication to his family and community. He held numerous community volunteer roles including President of the Prospect High School Athletic Booster Club. He also coached youth football, basketball, baseball and softball, where his infectious passion and booming voice had a positive impact on hundreds of kids. Many call Jeff a teacher, mentor or coach. Many more call him a true friend. A die-hard Bear and Illini fan, Jeff's legendary tailgates were always twice the size he had planned. His welcoming and generous nature stretched far beyond the South parking lot. Jeff will be missed by an uncommonly large and loyal network of friends. A loving father and devoted husband, he loved and trusted in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior to use him to glorify God. Jeff is survived by his children Grant, Lauren and Ben and his loving wife of 21 years, Michelle. His face lit up when he talked about his kids and their accomplishments. He loved being a dad and he was their Superman. He also leaves behind his parents, Robert and Kathy, his sisters Sally (Jeff) Schumann and Linda (Dan) Walther and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 7 from 3pm to 8pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 North Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. The funeral will be on Monday, August 8 at 10am at Grace Church, 4000 Capitol Drive, Wheeling. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jeff's name to Chicago White Sox Charities or Chicago Bears Care. What a great person Jeff was. Even though I have not spoken with him for more than 25 years, I suddenly miss him dearly. I'll never forget growing up with him, Sally, and Linda at the church and going on the Open Road bike trips. Our condolences to the entire Miller family.

The news of Jeff's passing hit me very hard. He had such an influence on me as a young man, shaping my teenage years and keeping out of trouble in college. I will always have only very fond memories of Jeff and will be forever grateful for his friendship. My heartfelt prayers are with the whole Miller family.

Loved Jeff so much!!!! What a great person and one of my very favorite softball coaches of all times. In fact, he was my coach and Michelle's too. They fell in love during that season and the rest of the team couldn't have been happier for them. What a beautiful couple they made!!! We will miss you Jeff and the impact you have made on so many lives.

We are so sorry for the loss of your loved one. Jeff was one great guy. He was Alyssa's softball coach and was A great inspiration to her and to Us, Alyssa's parents. Alyssa just loved Jeff to her core as a coach. He was a mentor for all the kids and you could see that he invested in each kid regardless of their talent. I know his children will carry on his deep love and passion for life. We were very lucky to have known Jeff for the short time we did but it was a blessing to have known him. You described Jeff perfectly. While we met through a business relationship, Jeff became someone special and enjoyable to be with. We talked about faith, family and work and keeping balance. I told him I admired and respected his commitment to all three while not letting business rise to the top as it so often does.
Of special meaning to me is that we could talk about Jesus Christ and Jeff's trust in Him as Savior and Lord. Michelle, family and friends, your hole is deep right now because he was such a good man, but trust God, He will comfort you.
ILL-not any more!
