I only knew Joan a few years. We met on a plane and engaged in such wonderful conversations about politics of the day, family, business, and other matters of importance that we knew we had to keep In touch We had a few quick meals with each other over the years and I had no idea she was ill until I read this. my last text from her was on election night where we celebrated the senate victory of Elizabeth warren. She was a truly delightful brilliant and fun person who I will miss from my life. My thoughts are with her husband and daughters who she adored with all her big heart. Peter R Meyers

I went to Bishop Stang High School with Joan. My memory of her is one of profound intelligence and of being such a sweet human being. I was shocked to learn of her passing and would like to extend heartfelt sadness and prayers for her husband and two daughters. Stay strong. May God Bless you with the gift of wonderful memories. I read recently, from a book on Medjugorje, whereby the visionaries said that when we pray for those who have passed that they can actually see us. She is with you.
With sympathy,

Joan was my stepmother from her second marriage. Her profound intelligence was an inspiration to me, and watching her progress in academia inspired me to do Doctoral work in mathematics. Her easy grasp of technology encouraged me to learn about computers, and led me to my current career building medical data systems. It was always Joan's desire to be a mother. I am so delighted that she was able to have two daughters. I would like to extend to them, and to their father, my deepest sympathies for their loss, especially so close to her upcoming birthday.
