The school was west garfield park ugc.the very first teacher to teach this class was "mr.Delaney.he gave it to us straight and unblinkedly any question we asked.not a day goes by that i dont think about the history of the black man in america,as i am still living it today, and i often think of "mr. DELANEY. I am so sorry to hear that he is passed away. I will never forget the way we would look at him when he gave us some of those answers, and i will never forget the way he would look back at us.i am so sorry for your familys loss, for all the students at west garfield it was our loss also

Mr. Delaney changed my life. He sent me to high school & taught me to believe in myself. If it had not been for him. I would never have survived. I have been trying to find him for so long. I contacted the teachers union to no avail. I went to Facebook & left messages for his chikdren to no avail. Now to find that he has passed and I never got the chance to thank him for saving my life. This was the greatest man that ever lived. All of my accomplishments I owe to him. The very air that I breathe is because of him.

John, when we were young, together we planned to turn society on its ear and establish a city and world where social justice was the order of the day, free of bias, hated, violence, prejudice and poverty. I know you never abandoned that goal.

Dear Delaney family, John was a protective and spiritual presence here at 867 North Dearborn. I am grateful for his listening and reassuring words on many a dark night. He will be deeply missed.

To the wife of John Delaney, Sue Susman, I never knew your husband, but he must've been pretty special. You are in my prayers, Sue.

To Sue and All the family, John had a compassion and tenderness that is unforgettable, and he always showed a sincere interest in the work of others but never spoke of his own unless I really prodded him for insights about his own work. We shared the same birthday and the same love for Sue, his wife and my cousin. A rare human being! Condolences to all. Dorothy Ungerleider, Encino, CA
