We are so saddened by the death of our long time friend. John was in our wedding 51 years ago and we kept in touch (talking on the phone 2 weeks before he passed away). We have many happy memories of John and he always called on Bob's birthday. He was part of our lives since high school and we'll miss him terribly. Our love and prayers go out to his boys and their families.

Matt(Jill)and the rest of the Hartnett family. My deepest condolences to all.

Your father both through his association with the Boy Scouts and throughout life made a lasting impression on myself as I'm sure many others. Many of the morals and values instilled in me as a youth through your father ScoutMaster of Troop 5 have helped to shaped me to be who I have become and for that, I will be forever thankful. And for the time that this took away from the individualized attention he might of given you, his kids, I'm eternally grateful to you as well. May he rest in peace..

To Gregory, Kevin, Matthew and Patrick and the Hartnett family,

We were sadden to hear of your fathers passing. We are sorry for your lost and can only express our deepest sympathy and condolences to you all. Although we are unable to be with you on Tuesday, I will ask my bother Father Paddy (who is visiting the USA) to say a Mass for your father this weekend.

Your father was a kind man to a distant cousin 50 years ago. When I came to the USA, I found love and support from your grandmother Margaret, your aunt and uncles and especially your father. And although I left Chicago many years ago John always called and kept in touch. We will miss him and ask that God grant him a peaceful rest.

Love and God bless,

John and Annie Mae McGovern

A smile tugged at my heart when I read of John's passing. How many lives he touched by being a part of the Scout troop in Wilmette. Thank you John for being a big part of our scouting years for so many years.
