John L. "Poppy" Pflaumer, age 90 of Skokie, beloved husband of the late Helen, nee Kapche; loving father of Lorraine (Keith) Holtzman, John (Mary) and the late Donald; dearest "father" of Eileen Varchetto; cherished grandfather of Katherine (David) Nolan, Rebecca and Nicholas Holtzman, Julie and John Pflaumer; treasured "grandfather" of Gina and Joseph Varchetto; dear brother of the late Frank, Joe and Mike Pflaumer, Anna Sinkovitz and Pauline Winiecki; fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday, Dec. 4, 4 to 8 p.m., at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, 120 S. Northwest Hwy., Park Ridge. Funeral Monday, 9:15 a.m. from funeral home, to Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church. Mass 11:30 a.m. Interment Maryhill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Alzheimer's Association. appreciated.

Uncle Johnny was a very special person to all who knew him. He had a special talent for communicating with children and animals in a conjured up language that only he and they understood. He called it "public speaking", but it was a mish-mosh language composed of English, German and gibberish. And, we'll never forget his ghost stories. He kept everyone laughing and smiling in their hearts. We will miss him deeply but always smile when we think of him. He loved Aunt Helen and his family deeply. We thank God for giving us such a special person to know and love.
