I'm very saddened to hear this news and my deepest condolences to Julian's family. I have many memories of Julian but one that stands out in particular is when we opened for Sonic Youth and Julian insisted on playing drums with his leg in a cast. He could have been in a full body cast and he would have played. He was so completely committed to music, in a way that no one else I knew could even come close to. It came out in his playing, his rhythm was unique on bass and drums from the get go and no one sounds like him with that pulsing, organic, deep sound. His musical taste was extraordinary -- deeply felt and all his own, never imitating anyone else. I hadn't seen Julian in many years, but I thought of him often because he was one of the most memorable and original people I've ever known.

Farewell beloved cousin Julian - I will always remember childhood moments in Arizona and Chicago and our time in high school in Massachusetts together.
