I hope that no one finds this offensive or tacky, but I became interested in Karl because I own a business reply card for Heinz Riehn Insurance located at 4710 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, Ill 60625 which must be from the 1960s and Karl's father's business. It shows a picture of several people standing in front of Torsay Camera, the caption of which is in German. I wouldn't be surprised if Karl and his father were in the picture. They are standing with a pony and cart and onlookers. My primary interest was research on Eugene Torsay but his archive included the Heinz Riehn Insurance card which I mention here. If anyone is interested in the card, I would send a picture of it.

If you knew Karl then there's nothing that I can say that will add to the joy of his memory. Karl and I met in the eighth grade and we became friends on the very first day that we met. We were members of the Honor Guard and would practice presenting the Flags for school functions. We both attended Confirmation classes at St. Paul's Church at the corner of Fullerton and Orchard Streets. His Father would pick me up on Roscoe Street in his Chrysler Imperial and take us both to class on Saturday mornings. And we were Confirmed at the same ceremony conducted by Reverend Trost. And at Christmas time his Father would participate in the community parade on Lincoln Av. Mr. Riehn had a horse and buggy and would drive the buggy and Karl would give candy to the children. I've not seen Karl for several years but I've thought about him often. And I can assure you that I will have fond memories of him for the rest of my life. Of the several men that I've known in my lifetime, I can honestly say that Karl stands out in my memories as The Most Wonderful Human Being that I have even known. And I thank God that I had the opportunity to know him in my lifetime. May God bless his memory. If any of you would like a digital copy of the photo attached, please let me know.

Karl is someone I have always been happy to see -- visiting our business, walking around Lincoln Square, at an event, wherever. Aside from being a fun and friendly person, he has taken care of our family at moments when we have needed some support. We will all miss this gentle, kind, thoughtful man. Sending you love and deepest condolences.

Marlene and family, I'm so saddened to hear of your loss. I enjoyed working with Karl, he was always kind and pleasant to talk to. I thought of him as a friend, over the 20 years I had the pleasure to work with him at Badger Mutual.

Marlene and family, I was shocked to see Karl's obituary today. It was such a delight to get reacquainted with the two of you at our Luther North reunions. God be with you as you mourn Karl's loss, but also bring you joy with memories of his life.

Dear Marlene and Family,
I hope you are surrounded by much love as you celebrate the remarkable life of your dear husband, father, and grandfather.
Karl loved and appreciated his family and was so proud of all you achieved together as you shared times in both Long Grove and Wisconsin.
He was the perfect host and consummate business leader as demonstrated when we worked together with our Luther North classmates to plan our milestone reunions.
May all your wonderful memories of Karl comfort you during this heartbreaking time.
Kind regards,
Georgeann Georges

Karl was a longtime resident of the neighborhood I just moved into and was a lovely man who truly cared for those around him. I met him while working on getting things done for our neighborhood. He cared deeply for his community and was thoughtful and devoted to improving it. I will miss him.

Karl was a classmate of mine at Luther North High School. After not seeing him for many years, we joined together with other classmates to celebrate our 50th High School by being on the reunion committee. Karl and Marlene hosted our meetings at their home for over a year to plan for the reunion. We also continued to plan for our 51st reunion. Unfortunately Karl became ill and was not able to attend our meetings this year as we will be celebrating our 55th High School reunion. Karl will be dearly missed as we drink a toast to him on Friday when other classmates will be in attendance for our reunion. Karl was a loving man, father & grandfather. Family was everything to him. Rest in peace Karl and we'll see you again someday.

At Dominican College , the first fellow student I meet, was Karl, we have been friends since. Then as always he was fun to be around, generous, kind, always a sense of humor. I’m so happy to have had the many lunches with him when I would be in Chicago.
