public school kid

Mr. Millar was the perfect middle school teacher. He was creative, inspirational and REALLY cared about his students. He was my eighth grade teacher and was a guiding spirit through my troubled family life and completely saw me for who i was. As I try to digitize my memorabilia, I came across his handwritten responses to my letters sent to him in desperation, trying to escape my home life. His responses, (written in typical Mr. Millar style, with witty parens) were deeply thoughtful and concerned. Today, I have a life I am proud of and much of that direction is due to Mr. Millar.
Thank you for the fond and touching memories (oh, and of course, for being a fantastic educator and teacher).
You were tolerant of my 8th grade radical anti-war thoughts and my awful singing (I cant believe you let me in choir, lol).
Thank you for being in my life.

One of my favorite memories of Mr. Millar is bringing home my school photo. My Mom asked, "who's the big kid on the left?" and I told her, that's my teacher.

Dr. Millar set the bar as an educator, boss, mentor, and gentleman. It was an honor to be one of his teachers.
I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family.

Sending my sincere condolences to the entire family. As Deena has said he was a great boss and he did make sure we gave our best . I loved coming to work each day because he created a team . He knew the names and family backgrounds of each child that came through that door and they knew that he cared. Every school needs a Dr. Millar .

II am so sorry to hear this news. He was a great man and a great boss. He strived for perfection from us all and would push us to be our best. The world has a great loss with his passing. I always admired him.
