Dr. Luis G. Redondo was born in Cuba on Feb. 19, 1926. Dr. Redondo passed away on Nov. 23 at his home surrounded by his family. Luis led an interesting and eventful life. A graduate of the University of Havana Medical School, Luis received his training in Orthopaedic Surgery in Havana, Boston, and at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Redondo left Cuba with his family in 1965 due to the communist regime. He was a successful surgeon for 30 years at Holy Cross, Little Company of Mary and Christ Hospitals. Luis was respected by his colleagues and loved by his patients and co-workers. He helped many people with both financial support and advice. His interests included music, literature, art, history world travel and baseball. Luis was a gifted 3rd baseman for his college team in the 1940's. He loved to read and had amassed a large collection of books. His knowledge of history and politics led him to write an as yet unpublished book on Latin American politics and culture. His travels included China, Tierra del Fuego, South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Luis is survived by his wife, Mercedes; sons, Luis and Pedro; grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Michelle; and sisters, Maria, Ofelia and Ada. Luis elected cremation and visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 2 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Burr Ridge.

Mrs. Redondo, Dr. Redondo and family: I am very sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.
Dr. Redondo was remarkable because of the man he was: the surgeon who "fixed" us, the professional who cared for us, and the gentleman whose compassion helped us all to heal more than just our limbs.
May your memories comfort you. May his examples be lessons to you.
May his story forever be told to your children so that he lives on forever.
Your family will remain in my heart and prayers.

Dearest Redondo Family,
I'm truly sorry for your loss. I too was a patient of Dr. Redondo at a very young age. I believe i was a "case study" for him. I remember having to appear at a conference with him and how scared i was...But there he was with his smile and his warm hand! "c'mon Bridget, I'm here, you don't have to be scared". He always made me feel so special! I will NEVER forget the love and care he gave to me! How good he was to my parents as well. Never having to worry about "late payments"...but always pushing, "get her outta that wheelchair now". I will NEVER forget him!

Mrs. Redondo, Dr. Redondo & Family,
I just truly need you to know what a difference Dr. Redondo made in my life. I began being a patient of his as a young child (around 1971) after my previous doctor retired. I spent my toddler years in casts; Dr. Redondo wanted to try something different, surgery. Not an easy thing for parents to hear, but they put their faith in this new doctor and the rest is history. Several surgeries and many pairs of orthopedic shoes later, my foot problem has never impaired me from doing what I want to do. After the majority of work was done, I still saw Dr. Redondo annually. He asked me always to walk down the hall so he and my mom could watch me walk. I will never forget the pride in his eyes as I walked back to the exam room. He changed my life in a very large way and I am grateful to God for his abilities, his confidence, my parents faith in him, and his smile confirming a job well done.
I just wanted to make sure you knew that he will always be remembered and have a special place in my heart.

It was so very sad to see the obit. for Dr Redondo this morning.
If it weren't for him, our oldest daughter wouldn't be walking.
We loved him for what he did to help our Kerry.
God bless him now for all his hard work and for the love he had for his patients.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Love,
The Sullivan Family
