Sally was one of my best friends. The many many treks we took together on American Legion business are uncountable. The ride was always joyful, mostly because of Sally's good nature and enormous sense of humor. Sally was vital to the Darius-Girenas American Legion Post. She not only worked her way up the ladder to Commander, but remained as an officer of the Post until her passing, as our Finance Officer. She kept the books straight and was never off her report by as much as a penny. Sally's involvement with the American Legion did not end with our Post. Sally was a fixture and Office holder with the 4th District, The Cook County Council (1st Division), and was a loyal member of the 40 & 8. Sally attended all the affairs, the fund raisers, the installations...everything. And she was generous to a fault with all the organizations she was involved with. Sally, until two years ago used to stand on the street corners of downtown Chicago every Poppy Day, solicating funds for the most unfortunate veterans, primarily at Hines VA Hospital. If anybody ever needed anything, and if Sally could help, she would...and did. And she never took a dime for expenses or craved the limelight...she did all she did for the vets out of her own personal compassion. I am going to greatly miss Sally...truly a one in a million girl.
My condolence's to Sally's family. She was so proud of all of you.
One last thing...she so enjoyed the trip you all took together a couple of years ago to visit her hometown in North Dakota. She was so thrilled to see the place again. She was amazed that the drug store she used to go to for a sundae or milk shake was still there and she told me the place hadn't changed an iota in all the years she had been away. She never stopped talking about that vacation.
Sally, take care. I know your in heaven. Still working. Still praying for us all. God Bless You.

I regret to say in all the years Mary and I have been friends I never got the opportunity to meet her Mom. We did however speak a few times on the phone and it was fun. I've lost my Mom so I realize what she and her family are going through. My condolences to all the family and friends that are affected by the lose of their loved one.
In Sincere Sympathy,
Ann
