Memories and Condolences
for Mark Pearlstein

Not sure what to say?

October 4, 2013

My condolences to Mark's family, friends and firm. I am a fellow attorney and enjoyed and learned from his Sunday column in the Chicago Tribune. I was angry with the Chicago Tribune because I did not know of Mark's illness. The column was excellent and in my view not adequately replaced by the Chicago Tribune and I wonder if it ever will be. Patrick Urbut. Attorney at Law

Deepest sympathies to the Pearlstein Family and Levenfeld Pearlstein Staff,

I was truly saddened to hear about Mark's passing and was unaware that he was ill. Mark was not only a wise attorney, educator and communicator, he was a kind man. He was always a supporter of our consulting services and always wanted to help the smaller association client even if they could not afford his services. He was instrumental in legal changes in the industry and it is reassuring to know he was able to see manager's licensing take effect before he left us as he was so instrumental in effecting this important industry change. Mark's legacy will live on through his articles on every topic imaginable in condo law. It was an honor working with him and knowing him. Sincerely, Shirley Feldmann, Association Advocates Inc.

Heartfelt sympathies to Mark's family, many friends and Firm. As an attorney myself, I have tremendous respect for Mark's tireless commitment to the improvement of the legal system for all, and as a client (member of the 100 E Huron Condominium Board for many years) I was fortunate to receive the benefit of his wise counsel. He will be missed but his many great contributions are permanent and lasting

Dear Pearlstein Family,

I was very saddened to hear of Mark's passing and I offer my deepest sympathies. As the first President of the 540 Lake Shore Drive Condo Association after it first converted to condo's, Mark wise council and thoughtful advice steered us through choppy waters as we dealt with multiple issues at the on set of the conversion. He was a true gentleman in every sense of the word who brought pinpoint clarity to complex issues.

I am very sorry for the loss of your husband and father. I wanted to share and an amazing gesture your loved one made toward me. In connection with his condominium column, about 15 years ago, he received a letter from a disgruntled condo owner purportedly seeking advice but also threatening the opposing attorney - myself. Mine was the only named mentioned in the letter as it was sent anonymously. Mark and I had never met. But he looked me up in a legal directory and contacted me to alert me of the threat to my safety. My firm took the necessary steps. Mark and I had some nice conversations afterward. I have never forgotten this gesture and have always been grateful. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Lynn and Family: I first met Mark when working for a real estate developer and knew he was the wisest attorney I had ever come across with respect to Condominium Law. I have known him for over 20 years and have respected his wisdom, knowledge, advice and sincere dedication to his clients and friends. He was a wonderful man and I hope you find some peace in knowing how much he helped others.

I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Mark has been my attorney for years, but more importantly, he has been a friend.

Many are aware of Mark's brilliant work in the fields of condominium law and management company regulation. I'm sure that fewer are aware of his kindness, his integrity, and his wonderfully dry sense of humor. If you've been a regular reader of his weekly condominium law column in the Chicago Tribune, you are surely aware of his unique ability to take a topic that can sometimes seem mundane and inject just enough humor to make it both educational and entertaining to read.

I will miss Mark Pearlstein. I'll miss his legal advice, I'll miss his business advice, but most of all I'll miss his friendship.

Dear Lynn and Family;

Mark was a bright and engaging guy and a great lawyer. We were at Roosevelt HS together, fraternity brothers and saw each other all too infrequently in our law practices. He was a credit to the profession and to his family and friends. "May his memory be for a blessing". We will all miss Mark very much. I was proud to call him my friend.

Our sincerest condolences.

Dear Lynn, Jamee, and Scott, and all of Mark's family,

It was with enormous pain that I learned of Mark's passing. We had such hopes that his cancer journey would not end so soon, that it would offer more time with all of you.

I cannot begin to tell you how much Mark has meant to all of us in the community association world. He was a real rock for me personally and professionally. We became friends, through CAI, many years ago and always enjoyed our many shared projects, explorations, discussions, problem solving. He was the consummate gentleman, thinker, and teacher. I deeply miss him and extend to all of you my sympathies and condolences.
