Marty, you are missed by many, may you rest in peace.

April 30, 2006

To the Gaughan Family,

we are so sorry for the loss of your dad. Marty and Mary Kay found each other right before Jim and my wedding so we both entered into the Walker family at the same time. We hit it off right away because, after all, we were both Irish entering into a very Italian family. Marty has made Mary Kay very happy; I'll never forget the glow on his face when he announced their engagement. I always respected your dad for also honoring your mom's memory. I feel as if I knew her the way he spoke so highly of her. I feel fortunate to have witnessed Marty's softer side that he often tried to hide. Despite his sarcasm over spending time with the Walker grandchildren, Marty has often times bought my son his favoite donuts, as well as lit up my extremely cautious 2 yr.old daughter's face which many could never do. She obviously sensed his good will and kind heart and he gave that wide smile as she showed him all of her new clothes, shoes, etc. Jim and I witnessed his thoughtfulness as we were surprised with a Christmas tree and decorations while staying at Marty's Chgo. apartment for Christmas. We have since learned Marty had asked Danny to drop off the decorations to make sure we had a tree for Christmas. It has been great getting to know all of you and spending time with you in Tampa and Chicago. Please know that, aside from Mary Kay's, you are more than welcome to stay with us anytime.

We will miss your dad and will be sure to help Mary Kay through her grief as well.

Our prayers are with you all.

To Michael, Grace, Nora, Mary Kay and the entire Gaughan family we send our sympathy. In reading through so many wonderful memories and tributes, I only wish we could have really known your Dad. What a wonderful man, who so valued his family, friends, community and heritage. You are all most certainly better people for having him in your lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To Mary Kay, my Dad, Aunt Rosemary, my cousins, and Marty's Grandchildren,

What a loss. We are all better because we knew and loved Uncle Marty. The good Lord didn't make them any better. As young kids, we loved our trips to Chicago to see Uncle Marty, Aunt Kay, and their family.

When I was about to marry into the Gaughan clan, I remember my first meeting of Marty, Kay, and the kids at their house in the old neighborhood. We were soon at the piano in the basement where I was trying to keep up with Marty as he sang the old Irish melodies. I was very grateful they made the trip to our wedding on the "black ribbon to

Hell" (translation of Marty's words: the road to Carthage, IL...!)

May the angels lead him into paradise.

Marty and I were teammates for many a softball and basketball game. We also felt we were long lost cousins, with both of us sharing O'Malley heritage from Louisburg, Co. Mayo, Ireland. He was one of a kind.

Marty Gaughan, the Most Proudly IRISH guy I’ve ever known. To be sure, your heart could have only been in the shape of a Shamrock

I‘ll always remember your smile and twinkle in your eye whenever I walked in from next door to be greeted with a big big hug and the words, “Miss Me?”.

I’ll always remember your practical approach to problems,

“ Don’t worry about Thursday

on Monday”.

I’ll always remember how special and valued you made me feel.

I’ll always remember your keen power of observation displayed with such delicious wit.

And I’ll always remember that horribly rainy and windy night when you drove us back home from the movies while I sat paralyzed with fear in the passenger seat and you remained amazingly confident despite the honking cars whizzing past us. I couldn’t make out what the other drivers were saying, but I do remember you saying , “Let them honk”.

For one Last Time: To the query , “Miss Me?”

Yes, Marty , I always will.

To MaryKay and the Gaughan Family:

My Deepest Sympathy. My Deepest Empathy for the sadness in your hearts.

Love, Cyndi

To the Family of Marty Gaughan:

I extend my deepest sympathy. I had the pleasure of officiating with Marty many times in the Chicago Catholic League, the Old Chicagoland Prep Conference. I always knew that Marty took care of business on his end of the floor and of course there was always the pleasure of socializing after working a tough double header (Lights and Heavies) in the Catholic League. Like Marty I also am a member of the Chicago Catholic League Hall of Fame because of working with quality men like him.

May God bless him.

Sincerely,

Phil Robinson

Dear Mr. Gaughan:

From our early days on Highland Avenue and later on Glenlake, you were always a great neighbor and friend. But I think you'll be remembered most of all for being a great husband, father and gentleman.

My family and I are proud to have known you. For us, it's always too soon to see you go, but we're glad you have reached your rightful place in heaven.

Our thoughts and prayers are and will continue to be with you and your family.

Dear Gaughan family:

I worked with Marty at Victor, and he was a most kind and gentle person. Always giving of himself whenever you needed him. He was extremely kind to me when I needed it. He will truly be missed. Know that you had a wonderful father and friend in Marty. You all have my deepest sympathy.

Uncle Marty’s arrival at Grandma’s always brought immediate smiles and laughter to my brother’s and I. He seemed to always show up with his boys as soon as he knew dad, his brother, had returned with all of our gang to Chicago. As we got older and we all got married it was an added bonus to see him at the weddings. MaryAnn and I enjoyed his entertaining piano playing with songs about the ‘old sod a few years back at a family gathering. That will be a beautiful lasting memory. May he rest in Peace. Our sympathies to Dad, Aunt Rosemary, and all of my cousins and their families.

Dear family of Marty, I am sorry for your loss of a good father and friendly and sporty guy. In my memory of Marty, the last time I saw him was at Jerry Gleason's and then he struggled with illness. But you can't keep a good guy down. He enjoyed being a good referee. I still see him running up and down the courts. Let us just say...it is a time-out and he is at rest. God bless you all, Marylyn Osterkorn Ahlfeld

I met Marty 20 or so years ago when Jerry Gleason hired him as a sales trainer for our organization. To say that we benefitted from his expertise would be a gross understatement. Because he and I are avid sports fans, we shared many a conversation. At odds sometimes because our favorite baseball teams were from different sides of town, sometimes our conversations were a bit more 'sprited'. His abounding love for his late wife and his children was always quite obvious. I know that I will miss him. Please know that our prayers and good thoughts are with the Gaughan family.

I was Marty's secretary at Victor around 1972-74ish, at the Chicago branch office. Some of his older children may remember me. What a wonderful boss he was, always standing up for me, and always so pleasant.
