Mary Ellen Straus, nee Simon, 92, of Southbury, CT, formerly of Manhasset, NY on October 18, 2007. Wife of the late Alexander H.; mother of James David, Patricia Ann (Robert Fountaine), and John Alexander (Diane); grandmother of Alexis Leah, John Alexander, Jr., and Jesse Taylor. She will be missed by her family and friends for her sense of humor, style, and grace. She was on the editorial staff of Times Magazine for 38 years. Upon retirement, she was an active volunteer at St. Francis Hospital and later at the Southbury Training School. Mass at St. Thomas More Church, Tuesday, October 23, 10:30 am. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to St. Francis Hospital, Port Washington Boulevard, Roslyn, NY 11576.
