Michael Reiter Obituary

Michael George Reiter, 63 of Chicago passed away at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 27th 2022. He was born November 12th 1958 in Chicago to George & Jeanette Reiter. Mike was kind, thoughtful, and one of the funniest people you would ever meet. He was beloved by all who knew him, including his entire extended family and many lifelong friends. Mike was a great athlete, particularly excelling at softball. He was an avid sports fan, loyally and knowledgeably supporting the Blackhawks, White Sox, and Bears. He was passionate about music and seeing his favorite bands live. He worked at McDonald's, UPS, and drove a school bus, positively impacting people everywhere he went. Mike never took himself too seriously and made people laugh with ease. He loved kids and was an amazing uncle and great- uncle to nine. He inspired many through his courageous 18 year battle with brain cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, George. He is survived by his mother, Jeanette; sisters Karen Reiter Driscoll and Jill Maude; and his nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m. this Friday, May 6th at St Francis Borgia Church (Stoke's Chapel) at 8033 W Addison St. in Chicago.

Had the pleasure of meeting & being with Mike for many family Birthdays for my daughter-in-law & grandchildren. He was the sweetest & most gentle soul. God must have needed another angel in heaven & He surely has one in Mike.

Over 45 years ago, I met Mike working at McDonald´s. He became one of my best friends and helped me through the toughest times of my life. He was a true friend who really helped me get my life back together. We later played softball together for several years. Mike was a great athlete and one of the funniest and caring people I´ve ever met. He lit up everyone´s life and I will miss him.

I met Mike, or Thumper that we named him, working at McDonalds in the 70's and we became best buds instantly. He missed his calling as a comedian being funny all the time, he rarely took anything seriously and always had you laughing with him. He was a great athlete running cross country, playing ice hockey and a great hitting shortstop in the 16" softball leagues. He was a gentle, kind soul that loved kids and they'd love him right back, this world needs more Mike Reiters and I'll miss him each and every day.

We are the parents of Nichol. She and Crotan have lived next door to Mike for several years and during our visits we got to know him. He brightened our stay with his big smile and lovely spirit. We shared in his love for the Black Hawks. We watched Mike make snow angels with our grandkids and now that he has left this earth , he is a real angel in heaven. Our deepest sympathy to those he left behind. He will be so very missed.. Until we see you again, may you Rest In Peace dear friend.
