My condolences to the family and friends of Paul Bauer.

21:3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

It breaks my heart to see to hear time & time again about the constant violence, the shootings, the murder. It seems this is happening every other week. We need love & peace worldwide. In the only way to get that is by completely eliminating wickedness, & thank God because soon that dream will be reality (Psa 37:9-11 & 29).

Dear family and colleagues of Commander Bauer,
God takes notice of those who strive to defend and protect the vulnerable (Psalm 82:3,4). Commander Bauer dedicated his life to do so. May you find comfort in knowing that in the near future God's Kingdom will fully carry out what Commander Bauer endeavored to do (Matthew 6:9,10).

We Moved to the Near North Side at the end of October and the 18th Police District is literally down the street from us. I put off going to Coffee with The Commander and now I wish I hadn't. We knew of him only because of an awards ceremony From The Near North Unity Program which he received an award for his service to the community. I wish we could have had more time to get to know him personally. My Heart Breaks for his Wife Erin and Young Daughter Grace as they mourn. Erin Bauer if you read this, you took the time out of your grieving and mourning of your Husband to write a heartfelt letter to the City of Chicago and you didn't have to. Your an Amazing Woman and Paul was Blessed to have you as his Bride.

I just read an article by Michael Auslin about Paul, and because my father was a police officer his entire life, the article, and Paul's untimely death, touched me very deeply.
Please know that many of us whom you don't know and are not aware of, feel your pain, and pray for both Paul, and his family and friends.
I hope that one day you may look back and recognize how blessed you are to have had him in your lives, even for far too short a time.

We feel that we are connected to the family of Paul Bauer in many ways. There are no right words except to tell you are all in our hearts. We are a family of many CPD members - past and present. The area where Paul was shot was the post for 8 years for my husband. Also, in 1964, our family suffered in the same way - when our brother was shot - except through the grace of God - survived. Paul is definitely "sitting at the right hand of God" Bless you all. Geri and Marty Bilecki - Morris, IL

I have not heard about Commander Paul Bauer until the day his existence tragically ended.
His story had a strong emotional effect on me, and it totally changed the way I feel about the Police. He gained the respect of the entire city, state and country. My heart goes out to his little girl, wife, parents, family and friends. I hope they all find a way to live with their tremendous loss. I hope and pray that Commander Paul Bauer, wherever he is, will find his peace. I know he will always be around the people he loves.

We were incredibly saddened to learn of Commander Bauer's death and realize it was at the hands of a career criminal armed to the teeth. The world has surly changed since I was a child. We respected authority, especially policemen. We lost our adult son in a tragic car/bicycle accident 24 years ago, so we know how difficult the days ahead will be. After all the funeral where you are surrounded by people who grieve with you..there are years ahead when you feel so alone. Please know that we..and many others...will still be thinking of you and holding you in our prayers with love.

Dear Bauer family, My deepest condolences to you. I know this goes without saying, you have lost a wonderful and fantastic husband, father, son and brother, and the City of Chicago has lost more than a police officer, it has lost one of the BEST of the Best. I worked in 022 with Paul, he was always such a gentleman and if Paul was working, you always knew you had backup no matter where in the District you were. I remember one very hot day after he bought his house on Kostner (a block over from me) I saw him out cutting the grass and told him after he was done he could come and do mine, he said "not a problem I'll be over", and smiled, I told him he was lucky, I had actually just finished doing it so he was off the hook, we both laughed and he said if I ever needed a hand, just let him know! I know you will miss him so much, but know he is with you always, looking down watching over you and smiling. May God Bless Paul and All of you and hold you All in the palm of His hands. R.I.P. my Friend and Brother in Blue.

I was saddened to hear about Paul. I looked for every sign that he was not the Paul that I knew from NIU and then I received the call that confirmed that he was that Paul. Paul was nice and funny and a good guy. Paul, Shawn, Keith and I worked security together in the "dorms" at NIU in the 80's until he and the others went to CPD. I am so sorry and sad about Paul. My condolences to his family, friends and coworkers. People had so many nice and kind things to say about him. I'm glad I met him.

Dear Mrs. Bauer and Grace. . . I know words are many, and they are yet blurred, as the love of not only the city of Chicago, but the surrounding areas, are paying exceptional respects to your husband & father-he left an accomplished legacy by doing what he loved; a legacy that will be difficult for anyone to replicate.
To Grace-I also lost my father when I was 13 & an only child. To Mrs. Bauer-I also lost my husband 17 years ago-he wasn't a police commander, but an elementary school principal & I taught for 35 years. I know more words are not needed; but knowing others understand the loss, the wake, the Mass; then taking those baby steps to try attempting to pick up and go on. You & Grace need your time to grieve & process what has happened. I will pray for both of you, as I have experienced both of your losses. We are both Catholic-we know your husband-and Grace-your dad- is in Heaven looking down on you with love, as he will always do. God bless you & with time and God's comfort/healing, the baby steps to healing will come-eventually. It will take time, and God, along with the plethora of your husbands fellow officers, will never leave you, nor will the prayers of so many people you don't even know. Mrs. Bauer & Grace-you are, and will be in my prayers & heart ❤
