Pauline Lorig

Pauline Mitchel Lorig, of Chicago, Illinois and Marco Island, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2012 in Naples, Florida. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 22, 1923 to Leonard Bernard and Rose Popper Mitchel. She married Marvin Behrendt Lorig on June 13, 1943 in Chicago. They moved to Charleston, West Virginia for four years where Pauline taught High School music and Marvin worked for Union Carbide. They moved back to Chicago to await the birth of their daughter, Joan. She later married Morris Brownstein, also, in Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands. She is survived by her daughter Joan Lorig (Jay) Janssen of Marco Island, Florida and Peoria, Illinois, her son Michael (Caroline) Lorig of Greenwich, CT, her six grandchildren: Melinda Carrie Watkins of Peoria, Julie (Kelly) Davis, Jacque (Marc) Neff, of Coarsegold, CA, Mathew (Julie) Lorig, Andy Lorig of Greenwich, CT and Elizabeth Lorig of Boston, MASS and six great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Loraine (Lionel) Gilbert of Boynton Beach, Florida and five nieces and nephews. Pauline grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She was a brilliant student and an accomplished musician. She graduated from Roosevelt High School at the age of sixteen and then continued her education at the University of Illinois where she graduated with Highest Honors. One of her greatest joys second only to her family, was playing bridge at Hideaway Beach Club in Marco Island. Pauline was an extremely brilliant and accomplished woman. She was determined, courageous and optimistic until the last days of her life. A memorial service will be held on December 14, 2012 at 3:00 at the Jewish Congregation of Marco Island.
