Renetta Grana Obituary

Renetta Grana (nee Skiba) of Glenview, devoted wife to the late Dr. Luis Grana, passed away on March 25, 2020 at the age of 90. She is survived by her children, Michael Grana, Paul Grana, and Patricia Jonland (Ronald Trevinio); her grandchildren, Maria Grana Sachs (Jeff), Sara Grana, and Emma Jonland; and two very special great grandchildren, Hazel Anne Sachs and Kaylee Beyerle, (Shawn and Denise). She is predeceased by her beloved brother George Skiba, her parents Joseph and Harriet Skiba, and dear family and friends.

Renetta began her career as a nurse at Augustana Hospital where she met her late husband, Dr. Luis Grana. Together they raised their three children, moving from River Grove to Park Ridge in the 1960's. There, Renetta continued her career as one of the nurses at Maine South High School, where she served with compassion and a dose of humor. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, travel, and fundraising to provide medicine and dialysis equipment for underserved children in her adopted country of Peru. She was a patient and tireless caregiver to anyone who needed her help.

Renetta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She loved children and was always able to keep them busy and engaged. Her cooking was legendary and she insisted on hosting every holiday dinner. In her later years, she bravely fought and won a battle with cancer, and endured other serious illnesses which she faced with courage, tenacity, strength and always -- a sense of humor.

Her children and grandchildren will always be grateful to her for being a shining example of what a mother and grandmother should be. We look forward to the day where we can celebrate, in person, the life of Renetta Grana, with her family and friends, to pay tribute to this wonderful lady who cared for so many during her lifetime.
