Richard Barrie Obituary

Rick Barrie, a life-long resident of the Lake Zurich area passed away on July 18, 2023. He was born in Evanston, Illinois on July 4, 1950, to Richard & Virginia(Reynolds) Barrie. Rick was the beloved husband of Barbara (Auer) Barrie for over 50 years, a proud father to Shaunna Barrie in Hobart, Tasmania, and Joshua Barrie (Jenny) of Cape Coral, Florida, brother to sisters Pamela Bickham of Bullhead City, Arizona, & Debbie Young (John) of Crystal Lake, Illinois. Rick married his high school sweetheart after graduating from the University of Denver, majoring in business administration. He managed Nestlerest & Hillcrest Parks, providing private company picnics with fun and entertainment for all ages. He enjoyed all sports & was an avid fan of the Cubs, Bears & Blackhawks. He cherished his many years of coaching girl's fast pitch softball. Rick was strong- willed & stubborn at times, but he was also honest, loyal and incredibly generous. There was never a dull moment with his many goofy antics. He loved to watch the Hallmark movie channel, especially around Christmas time. Rick was a man of tremendous faith & was thankful for the many blessings in his life. There will be no services. A celebration of life will be planned with details to be determined.

My family and I are truly shook and saddened by the passing of Rick. We personally have been blessed to have had him in our lives for the past forty plus years. Rick and his father took me in as a summer intern at Hillcrest Park back in 1980, helping me complete my college degree. In 1981 I started to work full time with them and stayed until the park closed. Throughout the years of work and my life, Rick has been by my side, as I married my wife Denise and had two daughters Breanne and Lauren. In the past few years Rick has helped us welcomed my daughters husband Max into our family, as well as our granddaughter Margaux. Always checking in on each other via a phone call or two will be dearly missed, as well as those occasional visits. Those calls will now end, but my memories of him will live on forever in me. With his deep faith in God I know he is now watching over me and my family from above as he has always done.
Our deepest sympathies go out to Barb, Shaunna, Josh and the rest of Ricks family. He will be forever missed and in our hearts!

My condolences to the entire Barrie family. I was fortunate to have worked at both parks for several years, mostly Hillcrest Park as Corny the Clown.

Laz, as we knew him, our College Dad! He was generous, hilarious, kind, and always there for us. I was one of Shaunna´s college roommates and still kept in touch thru emails randomly over the years. He always loved an update about my growing family and I enjoyed hearing from him. I am so heartbroken to hear about this untimely news. My heart aches for his close family and friends. There will definitely be a hole that cannot be filled but with memories of his big personality and even bigger heart. Sending Hugs to Heaven for him and to all of you. XOXO

We bonded with Rick over a mutual love of girls softball. He was a true friend and we were so saddened to hear of his sudden passing. But we know that he was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven by his Savior with a resounding "Well done, good and faithful one!" Our deepest sympathies to Barb, Shaunna and Joshua.

I'm forever grateful for the hospitality you and your lovely wife showed me when my car broke down passing through your part of the country. You welcomed me & my dog into your home and helped me get my car repaired. I cherish the time I spent with you walking our dogs together and talking about whatever was going on. You are going to be missed by a lot of people and I hope you can RIP my friend
