Richard Mattick

1937 - 2018

Richard Walter Mattick was born on February 2, 1937 in Chicago to Walter and Clara (nee Pearson) Mattick. He died Saturday, January 27, 2018 in Park Ridge, Illinois. Richard was the President and co-owner of Mattick Business Forms, a family run company that was started in Chicago in 1921. He was also the co-owner of Mattick Antiques with his wife Sara. Richard was a classically trained and accomplished jazz pianist. He was the leader of the Dick Mattick Swingtet and was a fixture at Hackney's restaurant in Glenview through the 1990's and early 2000's. Richard attended W.H. Taft H.S. in Chicago and was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. After college, he served as a communications officer aboard the Aircraft Carrier the USS Oriskany. Richard is survived by his children, Richard K. "Rick" (Donna) Mattick and Lynne (Ed) Payne; his six grandchildren, Clara and Anna Mattick, and Lindsey, Lyle, Logan and Lilly Payne; his brother Howard (Londa) Mattick; and his brother-in-law Jon Weichelt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Lynne Mattick; by his parents and by his sister, Diane Weichelt. Visitation from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Friday, February 9, 2018 at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. A funeral service, including a jazz tribute, will be held Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington Hills. Richard will lie in state for last respects an hour before the service. Interment is at Ridgewood Cemetery in Des Plaines immediately following the service.
