Steve Mattick of Franklin, IN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025, joining his recently departed love, Gloria.

He was born on June 3, 1942, to Arthur and Jeanne (Hines) Mattick and raised in Greenwood, IN, alongside his brothers, Richard, Michael, Peter, and sister Dianne.

He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1960, where he was co-captain of a successful football team. He went on to attend Indiana State University to play football and earn his bachelor's degree. He later pursued graduate studies at Indiana University, where he received both his master's and specialist degrees in education - and where he met Gloria, the love of his life.

Steve married Gloria Palacios in 1967, and together they had one son, Anthony. Steve was a devoted husband and father who instilled a love of learning and often expressed how proud he was of their accomplishments.

He taught science at Whiteland Middle and High Schools for 20 years, serving as a guidance counselor and coaching football as well. He loved working with students and helping people, both in and out of the classroom. He was known for offering thoughtful guidance to others throughout his daily life.

Steve also worked in real estate and insurance sales, which led him to begin purchasing rental properties in New Whiteland. This business grew to become his main occupation as he continued to acquire and rent properties in the area. With the help of a team of workers who became close friends, he renovated and greatly improved many homes around New Whiteland, improving the quality of the overall area and making numerous friends through the years. He believed in doing things right and providing quality housing for local families.

Steve loved fishing and ping-pong from a young age. He loved listening to music, especially country. He believed in continual self-improvement and was often reading self-help and real estate books, among others. He loved going to the casino and flea markets with Gloria and Anthony, collecting books, CDs, unique antiques, and other things. He loved entertaining kids with humor or magic tricks, and being fondly known as "Uncle Steve" to his nephews and nieces.

Steve was always thrilled to see the ocean and loved traveling. He especially enjoyed family reunions in Port Aransas, Texas, getaways to Las Vegas, cruises, and trips to Europe and Spain. He and Gloria served as chaperones on numerous Franklin High School student trips, creating many cherished memories.

Steve had a lasting influence on many people's lives and will be deeply missed. He is survived by his son, Anthony Mattick, and his brothers, Michael and Peter Mattick.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 4 P.M. until 7 P.M. at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland, Indiana.
