Richard J. "Dick" Powers, age 83, Ret Sgt. CPD, Navy WWII; beloved husband of 60 years of Regina "Pat", nee McCann; dearest father of Patricia (Daniel) McKee, Kathleen (Patrick) Stack, Richard (Ingrid), Michael (Barbara) and the late Dennis; loving Papa of Matthew, Michael, Maura, Julia and Erin McKee, Richard (Jill), Sean, Ryan, Kelly and Kara Stack, Kristen and Dennis, Michaela, Barrett and Alison Powers; devoted great-grandpa of Carly and McKenzie Stack; dear brother of Dennis (Marge), Eileen (the late Ed) Sutton, Catherine (Weston) Parker, Bernadine (the late Al) Bagnall, the late Thomas (the late Teresa), Edward (the late Mary Jane), Dolores (the late William) McCann and Anne (the late Thomas) Wrenn; fond uncle of many. Funeral Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., from The Oaks Funeral Home, 1201 E. Irving Park Rd. (at Prospect), Itasca to St. Eugene Church, Mass 11:30 a.m. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, 3 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hephzibah, 946 North Blvd., Oak Park, IL 60301, would be appreciated. 42 years of service on the Chicago Police Dept. How sad it was today to learn of the passing of one of the best Sergeants that I had the pleasure to work for.
I spent many days with Sgt. Powers during his days at Area 4 Task Force and then many years at the Narcotic Section.
He will be missed by all those who knew him. My prayers go out to his beloved family.

I was so sorry to hear about Mr Powers. My parents Lorraine and Mac Mcgurn were his good friends for many years. He came to my dads service over a year ago and we got a chance to have a long talk. Sgt. Richard Powers was the longest sergeant to be in the Narcotics Section of the Chicago Police Department because of his great wisdom and knowledge. I was proud to have worked for him and learned much from him. He was a great loss to the CPD when he retired. He will always be remembered by those of us who worked in the Narcotics Unit. My sympathies are extended to the family now for your loss.

Dick was a wonderful role model to his brothers and sisters. Delores was one of my best friends at Pres and St. Mary's H.S. Dick paid attention to us all.My sympathy and prayers for your family.
