Robin Houndt Russell

Robin (Houndt) Russell died Saturday, January 6. She is survived by her loving husband, (John) Kevin Russell, two children, Patrick (Joanna) and Ann Callanta, four grandchildren, Camden and Kaylie Callanta and Pierce and Cooper Russell, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Robin's family includes her siblings Richard Stahler, Mary Kay (Stahler) and Herb (Pamela) Houndt. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Kathleen (Flynn) Houndt. Born in Chicago, her family moved to Morton Grove where she lived through her college years. Robin earned a degree in Psychology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. She began working at Blue Cross/Blue Shield in Chicago, which is where she met her husband. They married in 1973. Patrick and Ann attended Ss. Faith, Hope and Charity in Winnetka, then Loyola Academy in Wilmette. Robin served as President of the Women's Guild, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Liturgy Team at FHC, as well as President of the Mother's Club at Loyola. She also performed charity work with Miserecordia in Chicago, where she was involved with the Women's Auxiliary and later Women's Board. Robin and Kevin moved to St. Louis and lived in a condominium overlooking Forest Park in St. Louis. Grandchildren brought Robin and Kevin back to the Chicago area, resettling in Evanston, with panoramic views of the Northwestern Campus and Millar Chapel. Between frequent trips and stays in Door County, Robin and Kevin settled back into the life of the North Shore. We all miss her passions, opinions, drive, caring for others, love of God, family and country, and most of all her sometimes-wicked sense of humor. Memorial Mass Friday, January 12, 2024, 10:30 a.m. at the Sheil Catholic Center on Northwestern Campus in Evanston. Interment will be private at Calvary Cemetery, Evanston, IL.
