Stan Allan hired me, an architecture student at Howard University in Washington DC in July of 1968 to work on the DC Metro subway project, working full time in summer, and part time during the school year until graduating in 1972. I worked full time thereafter, until 1974. Stan rehired me in 1975 to work on the NE Corridor Railroad Improvement Project. I left again in 1976, when we lost a bid to SOM on that project. Stan was a kind, endearing leader, who treated staff like family, and engendered strong team loyalty, and made sharing our individual cultural identities an integral part of working together. Working with Stan and his team of other professionals was a highlight of my work history. He will always be remembered fondly for his compassion, ethics, and leadership.

Stanley Nance Allan was gentleman, a mentor and a friend. I was fortunate to be at HWA when Stan relocated from Washington to Chicago.
We asked on the United Staes Embassy Housing project in Tokyo. We took many trips to Japan over the the course of the project.
He would come to our offices and work on projects all the time. Then we would go for some sushi.
I will always remember Stan and Mary as a gracious human beings.
I'm sorry I lost touch with them.

Just learned if this sad news. Stan was my hero, and the man who picked me out for the HWA team in Baltimore. He impacted my carrier as an architect in many ways. I miss the most gracious man ever.

Stan Allan, as President of Harry Weese & Associates demonstrated first hand that the business of architecture must be founded on strong personal ethics. Combined with his indefatigable kindness, that salient point continues to be a measure I strive to follow.

Dear Mary,
Upon graduation form IIT, Chicago in 1986, had the honor to work with Harry Weese and Associates, Chicago. My short stay at HWA and visiting your farm house in Wisconsin for couple of nights over a weekend in June/July 1986 with you and Stan Allen. Still remembering cooking a Pakistani dish for both of you and the memory I still carry on.
Mary, I was very much impressed by not only his personality but his works also. He was a gentleman, God bless his soul and I am saddened by his death.

Stan was an artistic dreamer and visionary who saw things most of us could not without his help. A classic gentleman. An explorer, insatiably curious. A teacher who delighted in sharing his visions and explorations. His lessons will live on in the hearts and memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
