Dear Fitzsimons and Cahill Families,
Please accept my most sincere sympathies on the tragic loss of your beloved,+Tommy. Pat, it was a cousin, Jill, who happened to tell me about +Tommy, never knowing I had taught with and knew you from Jane Addams, so many years ago. I vividly recall stories about your +Tommy, who clearly brought so much joy into your lives. I am aching for you and pray that your wonderful memories of this fine man, help to sustain you in your profound grief.

Tom was a guy who became your best friend within 2 minutes of meeting him for the first time. We had ChemE as a common background and he joked about how we wound up doing enforcement work despite our education whenever we met. I am lucky to have had a chance to know him. My prayers and thoughts go to his family and friends.

Dear Maureen, Tom and Fiona:I had the privilege of teaching Tom at Mt. Carmel. We have a saying there 'if you come to Carmel as a boy, and work hard, you will leave as a man'. Tom (Fitz) was trully a man of Carmel. The Carmelite motto is 'with Seal I will be zealous for the Lord God of hosts' Tom was filled with zeal for his family and his wide ranging community. I once spoke at a pep rally and said the Carmel 'C' stands for COURAGE, CLASS AND CONFIDENCE..Tom certainly had those and more. As Fr Hesburg from Notre Dame said in answer to a question 'why ND was successful?' he answered, "we are COMMITTED, COMPETENT AND COMPASSIONATE" - Tom was all of those and more....If you believe in Jesus, which Tom did, you never say goodbye(God be with yee) for the last time. Death kills bodies, but not relationships. He will always be your husband, father and friend. He is safely in the loving hand of God and God will never let go...and to you, may the Good Lord hold you together in His loving hand, and not squeeze you too hard..shalom...Fr. Gavin Quinn

Tom was a great guy. I have fantastic memories of our time together at U of I and recall his humor and wit as being something everyone enjoyed. I ran into him almost 15 years ago on LaSalle Street and we sat and talked like we did back in the 80's. He was a down to earth guy who will be missed. My deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

Tom was my boss when I worked at GBC. I will always remember his kindness and patience with me being that it was my first time working in his practice area. It was completely obvious that he loved his family dearly. Tom's family will be in my heart and in my prayers as they navigate through this difficult time.
