We are very sad to hear of Father Shutters passing. He was a very good man and a great example of Christian values.

Father Shutter married us at St. Luke's in 1995. He baptized both of our children. Even though we moved away several years ago, we made a point of attending mass at St. Luke's in hopes of seeing Father Shutter. He always remebered us and our wedding day. He was a very special priest and friend who will be greatly missed.

We were very saddened to hear about Father Schutter. He was a special priest, he baptized 2 of our boys and helped our family through some very hard times. He taught us that church is family. "WE ARE ST BERNARD'S...TOGETHER WE ARE CHURCH". As he said it. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Sister Barbara she will be lost without him, they were truly a team. RIP Father Tom you will be missed.

When we moved to the Carol Stream area we were in search of a Catholic church. After meeting with several churches in the area we came across St. Luke. We meet with Father Schutter and Sister Barbara and knew that we had found our church. Father Schutter made us feel so welcomed and happy to be part of the St. Luke family. We moved to West Chicago about nine years ago and continue to come to St. Luke because like Father Schutter would say “once you come to St. Luke you won’t want to leave.” He we will always have a special place in our hearts and will be missed dearly. God Bless you!

Back in the Summer of 1977 I heard a knock on my door. When I answered the door there was a priest on my door step, and he asked me if he could bless my house and told us about the new parish he was starting. At the time I was 8 months pregnant, so he blessed my baby and myself too. From that time on I became a parishioner at St. Bernard's. I know its exactly 33 years ago, as that is the age of my son. I can still see the enthusiastic look on Fathers Schutter's face that day 33 years ago. He will always hold a special memory in the hearts of the Pellegrin family.

With much regrets from us to the Schutter family and Sister Barbara too.

It is with great sorrow to hear of Father Schutter's passing. As founding pastor of St. Bernard's we met him in July of 1978. Not only was he a terriffic influence to many, he was a real man. He and Sister Barbara were such a great team. Both of them were truely loved in the Homer Glen community. Both my wife and I are better Christians for knowing both of them.

Father Tom came into mine and June Robbons life in the 1990's and has been such a powerful influence in our lives. I have had so much love for him and Sister Barbara since I first met them. I used to meet them before Mass on Saturday and had such fantastic conversations. I will miss his physical presence very much but he is where he worked all his life for, in heaven with Jesus.
