Victor Walchirk Obituary

Victor "Vic" L. Walchirk, J.D, Beloved husband of Jane. Loving father of Ellen, Amy, and Mark (Teresa). Proud grandfather of Benjamin, Lauren, Adam, Ethan, Allison, Brian, Paul, Natalie and Gabriela. Proud son of the late Morris and Zelda Walchirk. A private graveside service was previously held.

Victor's life and career were devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren, and to public service. Victor earned his law degree from the University of Chicago. After serving as an attorney, he was named the Executive Director of The Housing Authority of the County of Cook. Victor began his stewardship in 1968 with 598 units of public housing. At his retirement in 1996, Victor had built over 2000 affordable housing units in 13 Chicagoland communities for lower income families and seniors. His section 8 housing rental assistance program, was providing affordable housing for over 9000 families. There are 13 buildings which stand today, as a testament to his life's work, including The Victor L. Walchirk Senior apartments located in Evanston.

Victor was a sweet and loyal man and a faithful man. He had a special grace and kindness about him and we will miss him greatly. Donations in honor of the life of Victor Walchirk may be made to Congregation Rodfei Zedek, 5200 S Hyde Park Blvd, Chicago, IL 60615
